Nice bit of progress today, dark grey decks done, modulation and added a blue filter. After it dries overnight I Can mask it and get these bits finished .

Searchlight and secondary bridge platform. The support struts are part of the WEM upgrade but the mast like structure is the base of the aerial supports (it’s only visible on her last photos in 1942

So you can see the shafts have fold down doors and from a distance looks very different to what the kit does and an additional weapon which is kinda cool in this shot of Zulu in 1938

Working on the centre bandstand where there will be 2 quad 50 cals. The Trumpy pieces are the platform on 2 boxes, where was the plans has this as a ventilation shaft and both platforms around the guns have fold down plates. Just scratch build with PE spares

If you look at Koppalakki‘s work here, probably another of the top 10 in particular super detailing and painting with an airbrush. his yamato is the benchmark as far as I’m concerned.

A light filter added then Ships markers added (left over from Yamato - Rub on decals which leave no glossy outline) and ships numbers left over from my Vendetta build which are individual numbers and letters to minimise flash. weathering next.

Now to start on Eskimo which had a CB3098 dazzle pattern according to Sovereign hobbies colour charts.

I gave the deck a blue grey filter then spent the day on several layers of blues before a overspray of 507a (RN Admiralty dark grey) then added a bit of white to fade it. I’ll add a filter after it has a day to dry.

Usually very diluted black then grey then a few types of diluted matte green colours till satisfied.

Well the shop sent me the AV-1 upgrade and not the 3! It’s ok as PE goes, I don’t know if POntos could improve on it really as it’s essentially steel girders the rest will come down to the modellers. This is by far the nicest Hull I’ve seen Trumpeter make and it’s not too big compared to the normal carriers

Getting some paint on the deck. The kit has it as fairly smooth but I know there are panels on it so I’ve improvised with the airbrush. Several shades of grey, once nice and dry I’ll do some filters

A couple of shots of Eskimo in her 1944 coat then 1945. You can see the depth charge throwers and racks amidships. I’ve also show a photo of the focsle on a tribal class which shows the flanges (if that’s it) for the chain and smoke pots

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
