  1. The Trumpeter kit for uses the netting in 2 pieces and some ridiculous flimsy arms to hold them, and Eduard provides something better with really **** poor instructions, the net needs to be bent to about 80degrees then it needs a rivet strip among side the top to reflect the real things.
  2. WW2 and modern warships have gantries alongside the flight deck. Langley had a net.
  3. Dude, you are making your own ship! I just stick bits together and whack some paint on them.
  4. Now a dark wash to bring out the planks and a buff overspray to represent wear
  5. So today is deck day. First a base coat, then the deck markings. Weathering next
  6. Thanks boys, i'll go centre made up brown. The US decks were apparently stained mahogany pre war, so it will be fade and damaged.
  7. So another bit of brown and white mixed paint added in the centre, which I think I prefer, and some buff overspray. Suggestions?
  8. The upgrade set for CV-1 has a wooden deck set but the set for AV-3 does not! so I’m pretty sure the deck was a darker wood than the stick on deck. So, with the end but I don’t need, I’ve tried left - Primer and flat brown centre - nothing Right - flat brown. I’ll probably lighten it a bit and weather with with fading like I did on Essex.
  9. The stern ones I’ve used are actually aftermarket but they were very very simple Ww1 models. When you look at the reference photos they are very bland.
  10. And the bridge, apparently she had 50 cal machine guns in early 1943 so I got some in 1/350.
  11. This seems to have taken forever, the deck bits and pieces, the rear area is now done, just needs ships boats which I have ordered from black cat
  12. I watched a few videos on Utube from AK Interactive, there’s not much on ships but principles are the same for armour but remember at scale tanks are a lot smaller than warships. And looking at a lot of photos and trial and error.
  13. Apparently so, the conversion apparently cost $300k so I expect that it wasn’t worth it. Im pretty happy with the Hull now, grunge and rust.
  14. About all I’ll get done today, the cargo hold covers.
  15. So the metal latticework I painted upside down because the flat bits on top will seat the flight deck, but it means the whole tiny needs a respray.
  16. So lots of tape to pull off, but the superstructure and upper hull base coat done, needs filters, washes then weathering.
