    Patrick, Thank you so much.
She was in so much pain, and she has it no more, and is, in our belief, in a much better place now.  Knowing this I can only be sad for myself, and I must go on for our family's sake.  I will recover, and be back when I catch up on putting my home back in order.  I am making a lot of adjustments to reduced income, and revising my values on day to day needs.  It will take time, but I will make it.

Thank you, thank you! Yeah ... I'll enjoy being twenty-something again ...

To be honest though, well, if statistics are to be believed, I'll most likely find myself hankering for a bike and some botox.

Thanks for all the kind comments and likes folks.

It seems a long time since the last update, but progress has been steady with all of the final fittings. I re-made a number of the fittings: The Exhaust, Gas Cap, Rear Flag Pole Base, and Hatch Cover Handles. With all of these, the castings were useable, but the time and effort to clean up the flash and then polish and potentially re-plate them meant that it was easier to re-make them. All were made from brass and chrome plated on completion. I added some knurling to the lid of the Gas Cap just for some extra interest (and because I hadn’t used the knurling tool on my lathe yet).

The Fwd and Aft Flagpoles were turned on the lathe from walnut stock, after first drilling them to receive lighting wires and/or brass locator pins. Another fairly straight forward exercise that posed no particular problems. Both the flagpoles have been made removable to provide some protection during transit to and from the lake.

I had ordered some replacement cloth flags from BECC but was a little disappointed in the product when they arrived – they are only printed on one side. So I used the kit provided flags instead and the “client” is happy with these.

Once the final soldering of the lighting wires was completed and tested, it was time to present the completed boat to the “client” for provisional acceptance. She was delighted with the final product. All that remains now is sea trials prior to final acceptance. Given that a successful float test has already been completed in the domestic testing facility, sea trials may need to wait until the weather warms up a bit as the manual recovery system says he doesn’t wasn’t to go swimming just yet!

    With that, I’m calling DONE!

Here are a few glam shots of the final product.

    Hi Ron,
Thanks for all your help on the how-to-do of making the transition from 2D to 3D.  Do you think it was a good idea to include the inside and outside of the frames as well as the waterline and centerline.  I made each frame inside and outside then colored the whole frame with it's individual reference lines.  Once I got all the frames done, I separated them by their color and then re-assigned all the layers into a different set of numbers, then I re-assigned them in sequence back down to the places where I wanted them to be in the Layer #s and named them all.  Once I got all the different frames where I could turn off all other frames, I used xyz placement box to get them at the right position along the frame, then I went back to front view much expanded and positioned them over the 0 Layer so the individual frame and grid changed color when it lined up correctly on the vertical and horizontal Waterline.  Once I got it where I could see XY in line then I went to make sure it looked right in the other 3D views.  Then I turned that frame layer off and went on to the next Finally learning to use SAVE TO instead of just saving.  Now I have all of them showing about in the right place when they are all turned on.  Next I need to make all the other waterlines appear on the 0 layer, so I can start on putting in all the individual frames between that first set of Stations.  I am going to have to have those waterlines to determine the size and shape of my individual frames showing fore and aft lines for each.

If you have any pointers on how to get those waterlines to attach to the outside of each of the stations, That is where I think I would be going next.  Does this sound about right?  I probably need to learn something more about how to place points on each of the Stations at each waterline, so I can create the waterlines so they will show at each elevation from above, and from the side.  It still seems a bit daunting to me.

A lot of my time has been going to working on the church sign lettering.  I had to get a plan for a router copier machine or jig, so I could put the old lettering over onto the new boards.  It is over 90F+ in my shop in the daytime, so I have mostly been doing the noisy work in the cool of the morning, and working on the sanding and other quieter stuff most of the night. Plus I now have the engine out of my old pickup waiting on the engine stand all covered up.  I think I'll let that happen in the later fall, when I can stand it out there.  It sure is nice to have a working shop again.  I have re-conditioned tools as I needed them, replacing all the frayed cords, broken ground plugs, and cleaning the insides of each electric tool, and re-lubing it to keep it from wearing itself out.  I have re-ground my chizels and block planes to sharp and usable condition again, and I have room to move around in there which I never thought I'd see again.

Mark, Thanks for the likes.  I now also have a keel built to receive all the frames.

I have finally started on my boat.  I cut my timbers for the Keel yesterday, and got them glued and clamped.  I started back through my frames, and am doing another check and refinement, really close up this time.  I am cleaning out the bits and pieces of lines and making sure each side matches the other in all respects, but I am finally almost ready to start framing when I finish this close examination.  The framing calls for them being set into notches in the deadwood, and I am going to pin through all the separating blocks to keep them from splitting on the grain.  Each pin will go through into the keel parts proper to tie them into the keel, and also be the pins through the keel splice joints.  I may be ready for some pix soon.  I am just taking my time and working hard to meet each potential problem before it comes one.

I finally now have 31 frames done, I think.  I am still checking them over.  I am just about ready to cut the keel so I can put the frames into it as I get each one done.  The last 5 were the hardest to get right around the aft end of the hull.  I am going to allow some spare material to the inside of each frame to make it so I will be able to sand each one to the fore-aft side taper.  I am going to use stock that is half the thickness of the frame, and cut them to fit the ends where I will overlap each with the material on the opposite side, then cut them out on the band saw according to the pasted on pattern.  I forget exactly where I saw this method done, but I remember how it was done.  I will be using wooden tooth picks for pinning the frames.  I will post some pix as I get something to show.

I have been remiss in replying to likes recently, Mark, Popeye, Omega 1234 and others.  I thank you.

I have been chasing down the keel tie in on the frames.  I just can't seem to keep my drawings following through all the way with so many frames.  I keep finding things on frames I had thought I'd finished, only to find another omission on another one.  It has been wearing me down.  My last few on the aft end of the hull have been the hardest to imagine and then get down on the computer to where I can produce a glue on frame pattern to start building.  I went through my wood supplies and should have enough to go quite a ways through framing, if I don't find too many mistakes, omissions, or other flaws in my drawings.  I have really been trying to apply the many things I learned in the lofting book.  Since I'm so weak in short term memory, it makes it hard to be consistent on every frame.

I now have a cutoff guide for my bandsaw.  I have also made a rip fence to help me keep consistent width on my cuts.  I found several knobs at the hardware store in Prescott.  They are now tightening my rip fence and another one is clamping the degree setting on my cutoff guide.  I still have to make a pointer for setting the angle.  I am now close to being able to rip my apple wood into building stock.
