garyshipwright got a reaction from jansmiss in HMS Montague 1779 bygaryshipwright - 74-gun Alfred-class
Hi Tobias and thank you for the compliments. Yes I drafted the plans of her, the half breadth plan and then her frames from that. I also drafted the lay out of her deck lines from the shear plans. One does have to be very careful because after many years the plans have enlarge, grown and redrafting this parts, help's straighten this out. Makes her easier to build. I do thank you for your kind words.

It is done, the lower finishings are build in. Painting them was very difficult, but also that is done.

Hello,
and many thanks for your likes and nice words.
Now after fine tuning for some hours, I think I'm ready with the first one. Because some are interested what kind of tools I use, at the last picture you will see most of them.

The shipwright should be pleased as the carpenters are doing excellent work.

Hello,
the weather gets cooler, so the carpenters where busy today and cut out the lower finishings.
then fitted these pieces to the ship
and at last cut out the approximate shape
The shipwright was pleased with the result.

Hello,
after we had last week 17-19°C as highes temperatures, we have today 27°C and it should go up to the 30s! Is that normal?
So at the shipyard was not so much action. The upper rail did't really cooperate, and with the paint it was the same But for now I think it is done.
Tomorrow I would start with the lower finishings.

Hello,
so far for today. The counter is planked. For tomorrow stands more sanding on my plan.
Theodosius, thank you for your nice comment
Jaager, I'm sorry, but I could't follow you. At the windows are no right angles and nothing is horizontal or vertical, except at the window in the middle. The paper at the plywood is from the original plan, so I think I'm right when I'm building it this way. At my post #1006 you will see a larger part of the plan. Jaager, I know what I'm doing here, if not I ask.

Hello,
Greg, it rained the whole night. Was that your work?
So far for today. When I saw the last picture, I know what I have to do tomorrow. Or immediately

Hello,
now after three weeks of summer, it is cold and rainy again So, not to see the disaster, I'm back at the shipyard.
The upper counter rail and there supporting parts. Just to say it, it was't easy. But at least I think I got it.
And here the parts who did't make it. To fill the space between the lower and upper rail would also be a challenge

Hello,
the lower counter rail is finished. I build the middle part three times But now I'm satisfied with it.

Sorry to hear about your flood Alan. Seems a lot of us these days are under assault from Mother Nature along with fires started by electrical short's. The good news at least for me is I will soon have a new house. Alan hope things get better for you and the other good members in the future. Gary

Nice job Mike. Will be a big help to other's when it comes to building her. Have a question about you square's and was wondering where you got them? They seem to be quite thick which to me would make them very stable when used. Thank you and keep up the good work. Gary

Hi all, just a small update to let you all know I’m also still at it! Though I don’t have much free building time, I’m almost there with planking the hull. Just another week or week or two of fanatic but precise planking before the whisky plank…
Frank.

Thanks Dusan. I have three of the direct grinder around the shop. Never thought of them as grinder' but makes sense. Have one in a stand, one in a vandalay router table and one that I use free hand much like you did. Pain in the butt if you only have one and moving it around. I had a few dremel motor tools over the year's, but after buying the first proxxon motor tool I retired all of the dremel. The proxxon are really quiet compared to the dremel which screams and just got tired of the sound it make's. The only item that I still use in the dremel department is the bit's and the angle attachment which is so much easier getting in to tight places and using ear plugs to block all of the screaming. Wish proxxon made a 90 degree one, that you could mount the drill chuck to, now that would be nice. One would never have to turn on another screamer. Again thanks Dusan. Gary

Hi Dusan. Your building is just outstanding and really look's good that's for sure. I have a question on the inside of her which has to do with the inside wall's. In post 69 you showed the inside fairing and it is even and look's great. Can you give us just a bit of info on how you got them looking so good. Maybe what tool's you may of used to get them that way. Keep up the really impresses work and will be watching your build. Gary

Hi Kevin. You could look into getting a set from Artesania Latina and on there site they call them Micro Shapers and comes in 3 sets, A,B,C. I have all three and get good result's when using them. At least look in to them and may save you from pulling out your hair. Good luck Gary
