I think I'm going to stop commenting from my iPod as it appears to repeat the whole post again including all the photos.  Has anyone any ideas how it can be stopped??
Sorry for clogging you up Steve.

Looking at the AOTS it seems they should about 15" apart which would be approximately 8 mm at this scale. Nice work Steve, I like your little drawing it is amazing how we can tie hundreds of these knots then all of a sudden the mind goes blank and you forget

Thanks EJ and Popeye it's always encouraging to have your support and thanks others for the likes Hi reklein thanks for checking in and the reassurance on kit choice as a first build I've found a local club that have an old abandoned army airfield and offer lessons along with checking the model over and taking her on a maiden flight . The toolboxs I built the top one a couple years ago and the bottom box just at the start of this build ,the top box I made a YouTube vid on my channel you can check that out here

hello all lastnight I rather casualy wrote ill just need to do the ratlines tomorrow evening and that will complete the foremast ,I thought about that statement this morning and thought again but however the ratlines were not that big of a deal and are infact complete

first pic shows how I waste more thread than use but I get frustrated trying to use small pieces and would rather buy more than worry about wastage

little dab of watered down white glue on the outside knots only its not necessary to glue all the knots

and here they are trimmed up and my little delicate knot tying fingers

here is a drawing I keep near by for when I have brain  freeze and forget how to tie

I also added this detail to the forestay copied from my victory plan and as far as I know not used on bounty I just liked the look of it and felt it added something but on reflection may cut this back out
not sure so I will sleep on it

thanks again for viewing and commenting

Unfortunately Constructo just say drill 2cm hole as per drawing. I think I'm going to slightly oversize the holes and shim the mast bases up when the stays are rigged. Long way off yet though.

Lovely work Steve, you make it all look so easy.

One question - did you drill out the hole for the masts at the correct angle or slightly oversize to be able to adjust them as you rig?

Hi Nigel the hole in the false plywood deck predetermined the size it is a snug fit but the mast was free to move in any direction, billings provides measurements for you to find the correct angle of the mast

Thanks harry ive noticed there seems to be a few ex rc guys around here that have now turned to ship building hopefully the skill sets will be similar and I wont be to lost ,as for the flying I don't anticipate that happening for at least a year and hope to have joined a club and flown some smaller models first seems crazy spending a year building something and sending it in the air but I think if I can pull it off id be real happy just to fly it a few times per year who knows we will see.

    Back to the Bounty

after completion of all the chain links both port and starboard im onto placing the foremast

using my jig shown previous to set the angle first fitted was the forestay

    then came the shrouds

    followed by the backstays

    and finally more forestays
forgive me if im not using the correct names of lines here

tomorrow evening I will complete the foremast by adding the lower rat lines then its onto the main mast using this little jig

thanks again for the views and comments guys

Thats actually what I'm doing . I will re make the small section I did using the pencile. But this time I will create a jig like Dan mentioned and see how they turn out.

    Thanks for the advice!

Jeff, I'd say the main reason they aren't "uniform" is because the edges of your timber aren't straight. Compared to the timber I use a lot of Kit planking strips aren't cut very well, indeed some are actually die-cut which makes for rather rough edges.

I suggest you sand the edges of all your strips before using them. This isn't as difficult as it seems. There are basically two ways of doing it :

         1. Stack about 6 or 8 strips together, tape the ends tightly together, and then sand them all at once. If you make a stack that's about the same as the width of a plank it'll be easy to control without the plank flopping around. Instead of taping you could glue them together for 5mm on each end if that makes it easier.

        2. Make yourself a jig. You'll need a piece of ply or MDF about 6 inches long and two pieces of square slightly smaller than the width of your planks. Glue the two square strips to the MDF/ply base the thickness of a plank apart. Then you can slip a plank into the gap and sand away . Use a sanding block or stick with 150 grit paper.

Hello Nigel. Thank you? I live in Kayseri which is a city in the central Anatolia. It is hot here too but because of less humidity, you do not feel high temperature in closed places.

    Have a good day.

Great looking barrels, nice job.  Really like the chains for the deadeyes as it's given me an idea how to do mine.  My kit has just brass strip which is not authentic so I'll try making up some of my own.
Very hot here at the moment, how is it with you.

    Hello all
having not worked on the bounty for a full week I thought I would ease myself back into things by checking some things of the snag list
here is the letters added to the transom which I think turned out great

had a redo on the anchors adding a small block for more detail

this contraption hold the foremast at the correct angle so I can see the angle of the shrouds and add the chain plates

I opted to replace the billings chainplates and went amita this required a small link to be built

that's it for now guys thanks for following and the likes and comments

Hello all sorry for the delay on the bounty ,the arrival of a new kit always steals your attention for a few days but I think im over that now
anyone familiar with the plane kits will be aware the fuselage and wings are built on top of the plans and with plans of such large size my dining room table setup just wasent gonna surfice so I have cleared a spare room a created a new shipyard soon to be hanger as promised the bounty will be completed before starting work on the plane I think I ow that to my self after the hard work already put in,and as I showed earlier in my build log I need to stick to one build at a time or which ever im most ecited about will steal all the attention. here is a couple pics of my new work room  I have put together this week and really should have done a long time ago I am delighted with the space I now have the room is 2 meters by three meters and the work surfaces aren 800mm wide  ,work will now commence on the bounty tomorrow

I do not know if you have had another attempt at rope making. While tidying up some folders I found this picture of a front cover of a book, which I had saved sometime ago and forgotten about. I thought it might be of use to you as it nicely illustrates a couple of items.

First the simple paddle at the bottom right; used as a top. I often use one of these, it can be easily made from wood or thick cardboard. The advantage of wood is that it can be rounded, sanded smooth and varnished. You then just walk this along the ropewalk as the rope formed. Though if it is manual you will need someone else to turn the handle.

Secondly, the looper, shown across the top of the page. Starting on the left, this has a hook to retain the strands from which the rope is being made. Then a device to allow the rope to twist and form. This can be the fishing ball bearing twister mentioned in the article I refer to. Then a sheave to allow the twister to move freely as the rope forms. finally a weight to apply some tension to the rope. I think the advantage of this last part is it is easy to convert this into a tackle to reduce the rise and fall of the weight as the rope forms. This makes it easier to form longer sections of rope.

Do continue with rope making. Once you get it, it is great fun and very satisfying to rig with your own rope.

I have sanded down the 3 sections and have a pic of what all 3 techniques look like:

Top left is pencile, top right uses paper,
bottom is using the art pen brush that Dan recommended.

I have NOT varnished yet (no time today) but here are my first impressions.

I definitely like both the paper and the pen. I like the width uniformity that I could get using the paper, but I also liked how much easier it was to use the pen brush.  Since this was my first time using both techniques, I am fully aware that my skills do need to develope more.  They both created very dark easlly viewable lines too.

I think, personally, I get better results using the paper. The pen is easy to use and requires about 2-3 times less work, but i feel, with my skill level, I cant get the uniformity that Dan shows in his posts of using it.

I will continue to practice with the pen because I know i can get better results, just need more practice!

The last thing is that for these sections of planking, the biggest one in the pic above is 100% covered up by the next deck. haha! So the joke is on me! But I got to try out using the pen and found it enjoyable.

    Jeff
