  1. Finished the 20mm Oerlikon, pretty happy with it for the first attempt
  2. Added the foot rails, had to soak & heat bend them into place, always run the risk of snapping or splintering long single pieces when shaping the curve. luckily I tooi it slow and easy turned out the way it should
  3. Thanks to Jeff D at pt103.com for the advise on the hatch ladders, made a simple jig for soldering , shaped and framed the deck hatch opening
  4. Made some progress in in the odds & ends areas Life ring with rope grab, added the mast light cable , the mast is aluminium & brass so it will take a few coats to cover, or I might just leave the used look, reworked the training gear cranks on the day room cabin, added the port search light cable, placed items on the engine hatch cover & gave a coat of paint, missing the engine hatch ( work in progress)
  5. While waiting for supplies, worked on the wiring plugs for the Nav horn, port spotlight bracket. There very small, hard to shape, but I think they will add to the effect, when the cables are connected, also added the mounting brackets for the , cabin vents and running lights. Test fitted the reworked 20mm base
  6. Window drain scoops, each window has 1 & the gun turrets have 2. They will be reshaped slightly once installed. Without the equipment or really the skills to Photo Etch, tiny parts like this have to made which mean no 2 are exactly alike, but close. I do plan to learn how to make casting to help with the duplication process . Also with time to reflect on my work, I have made upgrades/improvements to most areas of the superstructure. Will post soon
  7. Made the foot rails from Mahogany, with guidance from Jeff D pt103.com I followed a cross of his drawings & Dumas patterns. Given the fragile scale here I will soak in water then heat bend them in place. Being very careful not to snap them.
  8. I hope all are being safe. Scratch Build the mast, took 3 weeks & 68 fabricated parts, After final paint I will add the light & cover & the power cord.
  9. First my hopes & prayers go out to everyone during theses unsure times. The craft new all love seems rather secondary. One of my suppliers is from Spain which is closed for shipping, I’m still able is get deliveries from Cornwall boats for now, will stock up from them and work from back stock for the rest. Started laying out the control panel area, the test fit went well, Made the throttle control box, it’s still rough, needs some smoothing but its close. All in all, it will work just fine.
  10. Built the Jack staff and Stern flag mast, pretty simple, they will look good with the pullies, lanyards and flags added. Scratch build Bridge search light, it took some work to get it right, only concern is the turn knob might be a little big ?? if so minor fix . Will add the glass & reflective inside after finale painting.
  11. While waiting for a parts shipment, I decided to rework several areas, as with most builders, you look at something long enough, improve on a certain skill set, or both you always seem to find something you could do better. So I reworked the starboard ammo locker, the bridge spotlight locker, and the bridge starboard door. Time will tell if I keep them as is.
  12. Fit checking parts on the engine house cover, still some clean up to do, but getting there.
  13. My attempt to scratch build the 20mm gun horn, due to the noise, the 20 mm sits near the engine room, so the horn was used to notify the gunners. The horn is small, and I was working from pictures. It took about a week I got it as close as my skill level will allow Still I think its a nice touch . and once you commit to alloty of detailing, your all in.
  14. Engine hatch cowl vents, very small detail pieces made from brass strip, brass tube, brass nails, and washes. The detailing was time consuming and a patience tester, but I think the effect works
  15. Cabin vent finished ready to prime, starting the four engine vents next.
  16. Finally finished the 20 mm ammo lockers, ready for the primer. It took 5 days of trial & error, at times it was a real pain to get the right look, keeping something close to scale. Overall, I’m happy with them, which in the end is all that matters. My thanks to all who sent plans, ideas & pictures
  17. Added handles & latches to the engine room cover, latches are small very hard to see, quick primer coat to prep for clean-up sanding Made handles & deck brackets for the 20 MM ammunition boxes, boxes and lids are in the building stage.
  18. Put in the floor in the bridge area, installed the bridge drain and gas fill caps
  19. Engine Hatch companionway the plans called for a shaped block of wood, with a lid on it. Wasn’t going there, so I scratch built something that looks a little better than shaped block wood. Brass for the torpedo tubes and other deck fittings, nowhere near ready to start the tubes, but wanted to cut them so I could scale other items on the deck. With done I will attempt to again make the engine room hold down brackets.
  20. on second thought the brackets are heading for the scrap box, will start again
  21. So after much thought about working metal , or lack of. I don't think I have the skills for photo etching, plus all the equipment involved is a stretch for a hobby builder. While I'm working on the list of tools I might need, I decided take a hard look around the shop, amazing gee I have a lot of Dremel stuff , so I made the attempt to cut and grind a few pieces. I might just opening myself up for some laughter here, but if you don't try do don't learn So my attempt at making the hold down brackets for the engine room cover, it took me a couple of days. the verdict is still out if I start over again. Ok back to wood and comfort t zone. carved the towing bit. On PTs 103 -108 the towing bit was wood, white oak . I'm a little happier with the bit
  22. Thanks Ya the grab rails bass could have been better I have the sheet brass, I just could not find a way to cut it so small, still new to working with metal, I need to get some small tools just for metal working, all my build tools are for wood. I have several more rails to do, so will wait until I get the proper stuff
  23. made the torpedo tube training crank, ready for primer. still working on my brass bending/shaping skills, but I think they turned out ok
