lmagna got a reaction from Mike Shea in Incredible Genealogy Find (R.M.S. Baltic Stationary)
It's also interesting that it is addressed 'General Delivery'. Back then when the mail arrived at the post office the postmaster knew everyone in town and no further address was needed.

Hiya mate, I will continue to buile up the base color first and attack the bow area where there is a gap, then I will look at simulating some tiles with tape masks.

Sounds like commissioning day is approaching! Nothing left but details, details, and details. No more designing and revisions.

Nice progress OC. Looks like a pritty solid colour to me ... so you'll be repainting your acoustic tiles again?

Right I decided to attack the sub (no pun intended) by closing up the hull, this was quite a tidy job but needs a bit of filling near the bow, any way I also put the two halves of the sail together, then glued this to the hull, when set I lightly sanded the hull to create a key, but also masked off the top section, then I started to apply the first few brush coats of dark navy grey.
It will need quite a few coats (all thin coats) to build up a smooth finish.
Here are a few pics.

It will be a while OC, I need to get the Providence further along and I had BETTER start making some progress on the wife's Titanic or else!
Besides the PE for that build is going to set me back probably two times what the model cost and I still need to do little things like pay the bills and eat now and then.

The USS Houston
Ever since I first read about the early actions of WWII and the possibly stupid but heroic actions of ABADFLOT over thirty years ago I have wanted to build her. I have always been upset by the plethora of Bismarck’s and Graff Spee's and other ships that had met glorious ends but the Houston who was involved in almost every battle of the opening days of the war was never offered.
With the build of Piet's Java that desire has resurfaced and so I went out and bought the Trumpeter Indianapolis. (Like I needed another model on the shelf)I chose that over the Academy kit because it looked like it would be much easier to retrofit to early war looks. The differences between the Northampton and Portland classes is almost indistinguishable, especially at 1/350 scale.
Like I said not an out-of-the-box build but I think a doable and worthy model.

The clipper Sovereign of the Seas reached the highest daily rate and fastest speed recorded for a sailing vessel of 22 knots. Mast raking was popular with the clipper design.

she's look'in fantastic Carl........looks like you'll be done before I know it I don't have too much progress to show, other that starting to paint the fore structure, painting the fore deck, and getting acquainted with the PE better. I don't know if I have anything for the paravanes......I'll have to check. as for another of these projects.......if I can make some real progress on this one, I may consider it. I also thing the budget director might have a problem with it........since I bought that U.S.S. Arizona kit. I should have an update by Weds.

As stated, paravanes stuck on a.o. the deck, racks in place (next to the funnel) need to do some touching up on the top of these latter ones, dinghies ready to tie down ... every time I think about the zillion things I still have to do before this thing ends ...
some more eye sore ...

I was wondering where my stash was going! I appears he is sneaky too!
It sounds like the Seydlitz will be a nice build but unfortunately not one I would be interested in personally building. As usual my favorite would be MUCH harder to do. But I will follow with extreme interest.

Not a chance! Most days I am only able to come up with 22 when presented with 2+2!
It has been a long time since we have had a PC in this house and to be honest I had forgotten the term when used out of context. All we have here anymore are laptops. Everyone in the family has their own. Plus a spare one upstairs for the Admiral and I. The kids have a couple of tablets as well but I'm not all that comfortable with them so pretty much stick with the laptop. Getting old and slow at keeping up with tech I suppose, dreading the day when I have to switch completely over to Windows 10 on the remaining computers. Since the Admiral and I are not gamer's we can get away with 7 on our computers.

?????????????????
Looking great Carl
Your Captain keeps a much more tidy vessel than Greg's who has let his ship get run down to the point of almost becoming a rust bucket. Your guy must be a real Bligh? "What do you mean we are at war?" "No excuse!"

The ready ammo is of course obvious but I can't find the netting or voice pipes even when I enlarge the bridge to the point of being grainy. I do find the double row of pilot house windows and wooden doors interesting though.

I was thinking that as well, along with the person using it. You could probably give me a $10,000 camera and I couldn't take that good of picture at any size!
I suppose that the guy is using a builders model to point out the PE additions, that makes sense, but it looked like possibly all the things he was listing in the contents were brass colored in the pictures.
