My god I am sorry I dropped off the radar again... I am back on the Victory in Earnest again. The corrosion is paint. Dry brushing using a dark green and slowly adding more white over the copper base coat. Use a very dry brush and patience. I tried to leave areas that would be thinner coated to see a bit of copper here and there. I did see a cool effect on some spots where the paint was too wet and made little micro clumps. gives it a little depth in spots when highlighted. Use a really stubby dry brush. Im back to playing with channel irons and deadeyes.

I found these somewhere I forgot. But. It helps making things clearer for my project. I've only started on rigging on the bowsprit. Drawing-11-Bowsprit.pdf

I've been seeing this in Facebook group. I asked what reference material was. Anyone here know? My hull is buttoned up now but if love to see what provisions would have been on the upper decks on departure. Help? https://www.facebook.com/100017043844704/videos/453865271858264/

Ok. 2017 was a terrible year. Both our mothers passing within months... waiting for memorial services when the ground thaws in Vermont. Trip to Vermont in May. Got a heart catheter procedure coming up... and diagnosed with Glaucoma! Yay. Also building a 360 Big Block Mustang King Cobra... neglecting my drones... etc. So. Im back on the Victory. As of this post I am using a small kitchen Island for everything Victory. It'll be Spars and more Spars next. This roll around island might be the ticket to working on the ship in the house instead of my shop!

So. I'm not attempting to do work like the amazing people here. But my decks look empty... they are empty! Adding a living crew to my model, I feel, will add a human aspect to the finished model. I admit to being intimidated by the rigging I am trying to produce. So I play with plastic to add some ambiguous boxes to the deck. Would there even be a pile of boxes like these on the active duty Victory?

I was supposed to be looking for the figures and how you made them Dafi. But I get hypnotized by all the amazing work you do. Amazing is really an understatement. I'm really not articulate enough to describe the work I see on your build. In fact my English is reduced to one statement... "Oh my god, WOW!" Are you a genius or what?

wicked old post... I personally would shy away from another Heller kit. Heard alot of bad things about Heller.... I have the 1:100 Victory. Its a challenge to say the least. Hope you found one.

Im toying with the idea of doing the footrope stirrups with fly tying wire. I used a pin and spun it with my serving machine first. Then put the pin and remaining thread in the serving machine to twist it about the yard. Only one is made right now. Its so fragile that I need to get the heavier items attached first I think.

Sling ready for the bowsprit spritsail-topsail yard. Been battling with this for the day. Will finish up with footrope on the other side.

Im making footropes. is it a cardinal sin to use black thread for seizings on running rigging?

I need input... is it a cardinal sin to use black thread for seizings on the running rigging?
-
There is a significant advantage using Wire instead of thread for small scale seizings! I worked for a whole day using the Uni-thread fish tying thread! In the end the cats got it and its gone. So today I decided to try the alternative, wire. Within 10 minutes I had this block stropped to the Jib Boom-Topsail yard! And its my first successful work with Fly tying materials. I'm really pleased with the outcome.

Where and how re you finding all of the figures you use? I need crew figures. I'm using Architectural figures. Half are women and the men are so similar to each other they look repeated. Mostly I need more dynamic action like gunners etc.

After doing some reading on scale rigging I have decided to relax hopes of accuracy. Intitially i hoped to seize all stropes and beckets. Doing a simple overhand knot and a dab of CA actually looks better.
-
I only have a few more ‘hooks’, one block made and working on more crew.

A lack of Blocks is blocking my ability to work. An impasse some might say. My usual source Syren is out of stock. Does anyone know where I can get 2mm, single and double sheaves?

Revelle fictional ship?
William-Victory replied to William-Victory's topic in Nautical/Naval History
Thank you all. As I look at it it seems toy-ish to me. Looks good from afar. But it begs to be detailed out. -
Does this ship come from a real ship? Or is it just something revelle designed on there own? I'd like to know if this is fictional or not. Im still new to ship modeling and tall ships in General.
