Keith i think looking at your detailed photo reports on the production of detailing, that my blog only slightly adds information to the general picture of building models.

I completely agree with you, these ships are very beautiful. The last of them "Admiral Lobov" (the future "Ukraine") was in front of my eyes all 6 years that I spent in Nikolaev during my studies.

Thanks Phil! I got acquainted with your wonderful work a little earlier, when my friend Vladimir began to build his model according to your wonderful drawings. In the Soviet Navy there were two missile cruisers with the same name, project 58 and project 1164. Which one are you interested in?

Hello cotrecerf! I only paint with an airbrush, on this case I applied 2-component car paint . Apply epoxy primer from a cylinder before painting.

This means that you will succeed! The main thing in this process is to achieve an even coating.

Thanks Gary! This chain is not the smallest, it can be assembled even smaller. But the smaller the chain, the more time it takes to assemble it. When assembling a lot of chain links fly away to the floor, it is almost impossible to find them there. Therefore, it is necessary to have a sufficient number of spare chain links in stock.

Azzun, thanks for the feedback. If you start writing books, you will have to give up building models, which is impossible for me. Therefore, instead of a book for sale, I can offer to build an interesting model to order, for sale.

Ras, metal coating I produce in an electroplating bath. I talked about something about electroplating on pages 6-7 of this topic. Unfortunately, my knowledge of English will not allow me to tell you more. But if you type the words "copper plating at home" on YouTube, you can watch many useful videos on this topic in English. It was from such videos, only in Russian, that I learned to work with an electroplating bath.

There are no objections from me. I myself am most interested in this period of steam shipbuilding. Ras, you have a good choice of scale. At this scale, you can show a lot of small details on the ship model. Thank you Ras. I will be happy to help you with my knowledge in the construction of your gunboat.

Thanks everyone for your kind feedback and likes! Vaddoc you did it in vain, because my magazine will not disappear anywhere, and every party is unique and there is no need to be late for it!

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
