jaerschen got a reaction from Ainars Apalais in HMS Triton 1773, 1/48, POF by Juergen
Hello,
Thank you so much for your nice comments and also for the likes. I'm very pleased about this great interest.
Here's a little update. Some strakes below the wale and the garboard strake are fitted. The progress is very slowly because It's partial a bit tricky.
Also I needed time to find a way to add the planks without leaving any trace at the frames. Therefor the build from Ed of the Extreme Clipper is a great help.
In the TFFM-book this strakes are reffered to as thickstuff under the wales. There is a little step from the second to the third strake to see on the following photo. That's why the thickness of the strakes decreases. I will sanding down them when the fourth strake is installed.
That's the current progress.

Hello,
Here's a little update and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas.
I started to fit the ribbands and coloured the Main-Wale black.
The ribband-nails are done in the same manner as described in the book from David Antscherl of the Swan-Class. Only the insertion tool was made of a screw and two screw-nuts.
For securing the nails I used white clue and think that it works.
The Main-Wale is coloured with black stain. Mark gave me this advice in my build of the Leopard and it works very well.

I do not understand why, but one side of the hawseholes were not similar to the other. I had wrong measured, that's absolutely certain for me because I have made one side some day's earlier than the other. Here's a pic there you can see the variety of height.
The level of the holes at the starboard side is correct. So I closed the holes at the portside and drilled new ones as the same level as of the starboard side.

Hello again
The fitting of the black strake is started and the next problem is coming.
Therefore the following photo
There isn't enough space between the left haws-hole and strake. Must be the altitude of the strake reduced for fitting the boxing? I admit to be a bit douptful about this.
Oh, by the way, the wale is now tapered and also the strake a bit. In hindsight I believe it's better to do this before the ledges are fitted. Learning by doing.

If I fit the transoms I had a big trouble. The reason was a wrong angle at the top-view plan.
On the following photo you can see the correct angle and the discrepancy.
If I know that it was possible to fit transoms.

Hello guy's
I will start my build of the Triton again.
Christian (AnobiumPunctatum) and I are started our builds in 2009. But we built the hull in single frame and not in double frame based of the original drawings (Christians idea). It was originally planned to use the MSW frame drawings. But I realized during the build of the fore cant frames that the MSW frame drawings were not suitable for a single frame build. That's why I had a break for about 4 years. Now I pencilled all the frames new and would like to continue the build of the frames. After the frame build I'll use the MSW drawings for the remaining build.
Now there are some photos from The keel, stern apron etc.
More photos are following soon

HI,
thanks for the likes and the nice comments.
I thought them also that the drawings could be adapted to a single frame build. But the position of the double frames are not the same to the single frames. I believe that's why the MSW drawings were not suitable.
I have a little problem about the frame drawings. These are hand drawn. Only what I can do is to show some photos.

Hello, the next step is done and the Main Wale is fitted.
I had I little mistake nearing completion. The following photo should be a little help to declare it.
For fitting the last ledge of the Main Wale it was necessary to sanding the outside of the side counter timber at starboard side (blue arrow). But there wasn't enough material, the part was to small at this point (yellow x) . I had to many material removed at the inner side (red arrow).
The exchange of the part seems like too much effort to me. So I decided to glue a piece of wood to the counter and sanded it down. I believe that must be alright on the finished model.
And now some photos of the Main Wale. It's still to do a bit sanding on the port side.

Hello Guys
Most of the outside sanding is done and the Main-Wale is started.
The Wale at the bow is strongly curved and it's very hard to bend it as you know. I decided to saw out this part and it worked very well.
To fit the following parts were a lot easier
Another difficult part is last ledge at the stern. The ledge must be formed exactly before bonding. This approach should be used at all the parts of the planks because it's much easier.
The current progress
The next update is coming when the Main-Wale is finished

Hello Guys
Sanding needs much more time as I thought. I began to fit the stern-timbers to have some change.
Now it goes on with sanding

Hi Guys
It's done, all the frames are fitted and even the starboard side is a bit sanded.
The next step is sanding, sanding sanding,..........oh I hate it.

Hello Guys
Here's a little update of my build. I install the aft Cant-Frames at the moment. You can see my practice of the following photos. I hate it to do the same for several hours. That's why I decided to produce a Frame, install it and than produce the next Frame and so on. At this way I had a bit of change.
To saw out the parts I use a band-saw with a special saw band for slightly curves.
I hope that the next update is showing the finish of the frame build.

Hi
here are photos of the progress before the long break.
You can see the first attempt at the first photo based on the MSW drawings. Afterwards it was clear to me that the Frame-Drawings were not suitable for a single frame build.
