Hi Jolle, hope you’re keeping well. That was the first thing l thought, looks like chocolate sponge cake, immediately gave me hunger pangs 😂 you’re model is coming on a treat, sitting here having my super, hungry now 😂 Seriously though, certainly putting the hours in, that £150 kit certainly gets its moneys worth from us modlers, am looking at Bismarck beside me and glad it’s not the Mikasa 😂 think you know where lm coming from there. Must say your painting skills are phenomenal, looking so realistic. You’ll be so impressed with how totally crammed with detail this ship ends up, certainly not the £150 kit you started with 😂🤛 looking forward to your next post 👍 If you got paid minimum wage for every hour spent on this you’d have one fat wallet 😂 Catch you next time 🤛

Thanks again Joe, regarding painting going to do her as she was on commissioning day, also with no blast bags on Caesar and Dora turrets and range finders on Anton turrets plus no aircraft. 🤛 still busy with decorating and work on my shed as yet, but really looking forward to to starting the Bismarck model again soon. 🫰

Definitely at another delicate stage Jolle, l also thought this, those supports at end off bridge wings are a sod to assemble and all extremely delicate, best part is you would have to hang model from ceiling like you do with planes too even get a chance of noticing all this work, hey that’s modelling for you 😂 have to say this model at this level is not for the faint hearted, am sure you will agree 👀 your talking about davits for these boats, l found from closely studying photos that there are different sizes, l only did two differences in weight, but three would have been better, the heaviest and tallest is the davits for the open steam pinnace for obvious reasons, has to be lifted slightly higher for it too clear the hand rails, you can clearly see difference in height and heavier steel used for this in photos, the large open boat are lifted with slightly lighter and smaller davits and lastly which l missed is the ones on stern deck could be lighter again since they are handling the smallest boats. The kit davits are all to heavily rendered and didn’t quite like the flat etch approach by Pontos so l made the most of situation by using suitable brass tubing and cutting the details from the Pontos etch. I think the finer you go with this the more realistic it looks, as they say less is more 👍 hey after all, the boats now attract a lot of interest in the finished model, so all of this extra work pays off in the end. Hope you agree when you look into this, it certainly helped the appearance for my model 👍 great progress Jolle, your model is going to look so realistic. Enjoy. 🤛

Excellent job on the open steam launch Jolle, it took me about three weeks to to achieve this, Micromaster really through down the gauntlet for me on this 😂 certainly makes you realise how poor the kit boats are., hey that’s what makes the aftermarket details thrive supplying us lunatics 👍 she’s coming on a treat Jolle , she just keeps delivering doesn’t she.

Thanks for that information Joe, that kind of confirms my thoughts about there not being enough time to install this equipment during her short period in floating dock whilst getting her propellers and degaussing cable fitted, since lm depicting her on her maiden voyage 14th 15th Sep l can now make the choice to reseal these openings in hull 👍 Again thanks for that input 🤛

Really glad you’re still alive, hey, everyone needs a break from routines or you just get fed up 🤛

We’re on the same boat then 😂 👍 Had some major jobs around the house to sort out and my shed so just about done now. Really looking forward to forward to relaxing and modelling again 🤞

Just noticed another detail on this colorised photo that raises question’s as to it’s authenticity, the aft structure doesn’t appear to be built.
-
Personally l think if the sonar points had been installed there would be photos of this, it is after all a very highly documented construction, think this modification might have been on cards for her first refit or maintenance schedule. Starting to get the itch to get back into this model now. About time l hear everyone else saying 😂 Again thanks for input Jolle. Looking forward to to seeing your progress on Mikasa 🤛

Section XVI is at hull beside Bruno turret, but Stefan relates to it at the stem. Guessing that’s just a small mix up. Going by the coloured photo, if this is indeed her in the floating dock and no signs of activity in a three week window, what’s the chances of cutting into the hull and installing and welding this all in place, it’s not a small straight forward job. This is planting seed of doubt in my head, as l mentioned it’s not difficult to rectify this, just want to make sure l make right decision.
-
Thanks again Jolle, l have been reading through Stefan’s book and trying to to weigh up options, under paragraph ( other equipment) he mentions the battleship received this active sonar device and that it was fitted in section XVI ? Can’t see this section, last watertight compartment forward is XXII, l am thinking if she was launched with this not visible then it would have to have been installed when she entered into floating dock to have her propellers and MES cable installed, this was between 23d June and 14th July, that doesn’t seem to leave much time for cutting into the hull and installation, just speculating here, thinking that’s a tight schedule. Thinking if this is the floating dock don’t see any photographic evidence activity on this area ? Put this photo up Thinking off taking the hull back to being flush. You know what they say , photos don’t lie, unless they are doctored of coarse 😂 again thanks for your valued input 🤛
-
Crossed wires Jolle, it’s the sonar points at the very front of bow and on port and starboard sides. Just don’t see any photographic evidence if these points existed, easy enough to fix if they don’t exist. Thanks for your input again 👍🤛

This is an incredible model, certainly doing the ship justice. 👍

Jolle, a question for you on Bismarck, l have cut sections out for fitting sonar points on bow and am now questioning if these actually existed or was it just speculated for future set up, this is shown on Stefan Draminski’s excellent book on Bismarck, interested on your opinion on this. I can easily plug up the holes l have cut. Do want it to be correct for time period, help much appreciated 🤛

Did find whilst using these Micromaster boats, that it was necessary to buy extra off each type as they are very delicate and easily damaged, even removing them from the moulding is extremely tricky, besides you can’t go wrong with to many boats for future projects 👍 Wish Micromaster would do a set of boats for Bismarck and the rest of the Second World War German warships in 1/200 they are generic to most off the Navy. Same goes for the Japanese ships of same period, these would prove immensely popular I think. And Titanic 1/200 , can you imagine what could be achieved by this team. Pushes the modelling price up a tad but l’m a sucker for details 😂 Also in process of committing to purchasing Scaledecks Wooden decking for 1/200 Titanic, trying to to source one for Bismarck seems a bit of challenge, can’t understand why they can’t make to order after all the work done to bring on market. Anyway Jolle your Mikasa is coming on a treat, as l said a while back, she’s a lovely model to have in your collection, especially when you know how much effort has been poured into it, display case absolutely necessary, still to complete my own one, be glad when that’s done. Looking forward to your next update 🤛

Aren’t they marvellous these boats from Micro Master Jolle, especially when you compare them to the kit boats 😂 totally different league, even if they are not strictly correct they add so so much more to the finished model. On myself having three pinnace boats , my final take on my display was Mikasa just arriving in Japan from Britain and taking on more crew, assuming some would be taken from other new ships from Britain already in Japanese Fleet, hence the other steam pinnace, besides had to have another shot on one of these, just indulged myself here 😂 🤛

I’m up for that, if l live long enough 😂 Me being me l fancy doing her as she was initially designed, before the Aircraft Carrier became top dog, that is to say with her secondary armament also fitted amidships, think she looked so awesome on her side profile like this. 🤛 Small matter off Bismarck first then even smaller matter off Titanic next, any guesses when you think will be starting Yamato, more chance off winning the National Lotery than getting this right 😂😂 🤛
