Hi folks...today's update
Decided to work on the belfry, here's a shot of the plan view I was trying to replicate, the curved top being the challenge
Started by tracing the curve from the plans to a piece of scrap basswood and giving it a ride through the bandsaw...
which left me with couple bending forms, to clamp around soaked basswood
left it overnight to dry
here's the original piece...unfortunately the bend did not hold and within a few hours was almost flat, so I repeated the process but this time laminated the basswood strip with walnut veneer, this was successful...you can see the completed pieces below
the uprights had notches filed in them to accept the cross beam...
here's the glue up
and the finished piece...
the paint is still wet...thus the shine...still have to figure how I want to do the bell, may just turn a chunk of styrene, got plenty laying around
thx to all for the likes

Hi Dave
Any stained glass supply place would carry them, but with that said... those stores have gotten few and far between around my area, here's an amazon link for those interested
Stained glass pattern shears

THX to all participants...a little more to add
Today I was working on the "iron" banding, for this I broke out a specialized tool not used for shipbuilding so much but priceless for glass work, they are pattern cutting shears...three bladed scissors that remove a fixed width of material in the center. For glass this leaves space in your patterns for the came between the pieces. I use them here to cut card stock to a perfectly uniform width
here you see some painted black
and applied to the windlass to simulate the iron banding
and here as hinges
Applied poly to the finished deck furniture...still have to build the belfry, pumps, and the Charlie Noble, among other odds and ends

A bit more to add...thanks to all who've commented or hit the like button...much appreciated
The comings were painted the red ochre mix but the grates left natural, a sure test of my cut-in skills ...the grates were stained with a natural stain...poly will follow latersorry for the lousy focus
the deck houses and binnacle were painted as well
along with the windlass cheeks
two coats of tallow were applied the the hull bottom...
the rest of the hull paint will be added over the course of the week...I want this stuff to have plenty of time to cure out...this is infamous model shipways paint but thinned with iso and distilled water (50,25,25 ratio), seems to make a difference in how it lays down

Finished the binnacle
Started with a framework of basswood
and added trim made from 1/16 wide strips of walnut veneer
needs a little more sanding before paint

Spent more time on the deck gratings...sanded them and attached the comings
just laying out the deck at this point
ditto
Still have the deck houses to build as well as the binnacle, belfry, and the cheeks for the windlass

jct reacted to popeye the sailor in Sox & Martin GTX by popeye the sailor - FINISHED - Revell - PLASTIC
in this session, I continued with the engine and anything that I could assemble that would be painted a single color. the interior will be painted satin black, so the the majority of the bucket was assembled, and the front bucket seats.
the back edge of the bucket {up the sides of the back seat} still need to be cemented.......I wanted to insure a snug fit. on the engine went the valve covers, carbs, and the drive belt w/fan and alternator. the alternator had a molded bracket.....a nice touch!
I didn't bother to paint the carbs.......the air cleaner will cover them, so they won't be seen. the firewall and radiator panel were dressed out as well, since they too will be a single color. it's the blob in the center .
there is the distributor, the coil, the headers, the radiator panel, and the firewall. the master cylinder, the radiator, the charcoal canister and the shroud had already been assembled. a little more was done to the engine......the air cleaner was added and the solenoid on the starter was detailed out, as I have seen in aftermarket parts.
so this brings the build up to date, in what I've done so far. I've got to get some satin black.......the flat black I have is just too flat for the interior {underneath is a different story }

jct got a reaction from Moab in Curtiss Sparrowhawk by jct - FINISHED - Williams Brothers - 1/32 - PLASTIC
Hello everyone...this is the last installment of the Sparrowhawk build, she is complete...
The wing support rigging was completed with 0.015 stainless steel wire...the radio antenna is line from my rigging box, the attachment points are small hooks made from the stainless wire CA'ed into predrilled holes...I was able to use most of the kit decals though they all broke at one point or another, the stripe borders were a total lose though, so those are really thin pieces of masking tape, they were painted with a pointer brush after the green had dried, that was a pita...my thanks to all who've participated in this log your support is much appreciated...on to the photos

she's ready now! after I finished posting, I added the headlights, the center windshield column, and the tail lights.
I also painted the wiper arms and door handles. I even trimmed the tabs for the vent windows.....not gonna add them.
I tried to get some shots of the interior. I added the gauges at the last minute.......they were supposed to be under the dash. wher I have them seemed like good a place as any
painted the tail lights with some engine red
so.......she really is finished. thanks for the good word
