I glued the doors in )(one open and one closed). I put door knobs on them and trimmed the structure some more.

By the way, Chuck Passaro told me these structures were either crappers or flag lockers. Well, looking at the scope they were probably both. The front section is the "one holer ", but there's plenty of room for a flag locker behind the hole.

Frank might have the right idea....one door open and one door closed. I've made movable items on previous models and nobody even tries them. A lot of work with no reward.

I rough finished the doors but I don't like the fit on the starboard door. I'm also working on hinges so the doors can open to see the one holers inside. Still a work in progress

Head paneling continued. I'm trying to match the only photo I have of the Argus aft structures using the materials I have at hand.

I roughed out the doors and glued on the tongue and groove battens on each roof. The whole structure will be paneled with battens and trimmed. The doors will be finished as soon as I can figure out how to make the swing open and shut.

Help! Any ideas how I can make hinges that let the doors open and close without snapping after a few swings?

I rough framed the doorways. I think I got them square. Tricky. It needs a lot of cleaning up. Now I have to make the doors.

The main substructure for the stern is finished. Now I have to design doors. I have no picture of the doors, so I will have to wing it. After the doors are installed I will finish the whole structure with cabinet style battens and stained golden oak.

The port and starboard walls are up. Now for the roof on each side. I've spent most of my time doing this measuring and fitting to make sure all pieces fit snugly. It's interesting creating this without plans. A bit on the dark side.

Probably because the Argus was the fastest ship in the fleet at that time and no ship could catch her. So, they added the super structure?

I don't think The Argus used stern chasers unless they had a very long barrel. This is the way they built it. It's not my idea. I have drawings

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
