By the time you finished the build and with all the re-do's that you have to do, you are building two Confeds
So for the next time.....stay away from the salami !
Any change that we see some pics ? ( not from the salami )

Thanks Grant. Although Santa’s fund had already be allocated, thus no lathe under the tree, he did leave
me a Crown Mini Turning Set of miniature lathe tools with 3-3/4-Inch 95mm H.S.S. blades and 6-Inch 152mm
rosewood handles with brass ferrules containing: 1/8-Inch 3mm Gouge, 1/4-Inch 6mm Gouge, 1/16-Inch
1.6mm Parting Tool, 1/4-Inch 6mm Skew Chisel and 1/4Inch 6mm Round Nose Scraper.
These will make a nice start and could be used with a “drill press lathe” until I can whine enough to get a
lathe for my birthday!
Well everything has been cleaned up, grandkids have all returned to their home, and now it's shoptime!

Personally, I blame the salami sandwich!!! Great that you caught the error in time though Augie - much easier to do the re-do BEFORE it is attached to the ship

Thanks Harley. No, my fault entirely. The upper hull is first planked with 1/8x1/16 planks except for the main and channel wales which are 5/32x1/16. Then the wales are planked over. The uppers go with 5/32 X 1/32. But the mains are a combo of 5/32x1/32 and 5/32x1/16. The plans are clear enough. But somewhere between pre-bending, beveling, pre-painting, coffee and a salami sandwich I screwed it up. Saw it when I got ready for the ceremonial actual laying of the first plank (thank Heavens)!
The bright side is that 'do-overs' give you a chance to improve your technique!

Hi Ben, Thanks. It’s really fun using multiple woods.
Hello Jakob. Thanks for joining this motley crew and your kind words.
The starboard side is now complete. Now it’s time to drill a lot of
holes and make some treenails.
No work or playing in the shop for the next couple of days.
I also want to wish a Merry Christmas to everyone and their families here at MSW!
See you again soon!

Thanks for the tip Mike. Now I just have to “accidentally” tear a sheet so I can give it a try.
Had a good stretch of time in the work shop. I have been planking above the wale.
Very straight forward until I got to the sweep ports and gun port openings. Then I
had to notch the plank. It was a slow process of take a little off, check, take a little
more and recheck. After several times it worked out.
Now its time to plank the starboard side and then a bunch of treenailing.

Just time for the last pre-Christmas update as we hit 250 hours into the build.
Sanding of the upper hull has been completed and the second layer of the channel wales added. The hull has been stained after a coat of Minwax Pre-stain. For this portion of the hull, I've used 30% Golden Oak. As the intention is to have the upper hull much darker than the lower portion, a second coat of stain will be applied later (after treenailing).
Before we get to treenailing, the second layer of the main wales will be added and painted ... hopefully in time to ring in the New Year!
The very best of the Holidays to all. Be happy, stay healthy and ENJOY!

Hello Shipmates.
Thank you for all the very nice comments and likes.
Yves. .. Its a possibility I will have one gun crew of figures. I will use Warhammer Empire Gun crew Figures.
Another Update.
Test the tree nails in the Tulipwood.
The Deck drilled and ready to Tree nail.
Tree nails in and cut but not yet cleaned up
Very close up of the Holes ready to treenail.
Another close up.
Quite happy with the result
Will finish the other side and sand the deck then I will post the completed Deck.
Regards Antony.

Thanks Antony. Yes wandering through the mind can be quite something at times.
I’ve now started on the main hatch cover. The first thing I did was cut the hatch cover
boards, boxwood, to length, soak them and then bend them over a scrap piece of wood
to get the correct curve. I let them dry like that for 24 hours.
The coaming and head ledge, swiss pear, were then cut out and assembled. The boards
installed and the hatch set temporarily in place. I marked its location for installation
later. I also still need to install the lifting rings.
I didn’t want to permanently attach it until I had the decking done. It’s easier for me to
sand and finish the decking if it’s removable. Also in the last two pictures you can see
the waterways have been placed and they too are made from swiss pear.
Thanks for stopping by!

Yeah Ben, Gregs methods were a big help.
Big Frames, Big treenails, Big piles of saw dust!
Oh yeah and a big pile of frames too!

Hi Chris. I’ve played with it a bit. It is as thin as water. The best way I found to do it on
something this large is to use a cut up cotton tee shirt. Using rubber gloves of course I
dipped the tee shirt in the dye squeezed the excess out and then rubbed it in. At the ends
I did tape it off and used a small brush to better control it. I’m very happy with the way
it came out. After it dried I also installed three rows of planking below the wales. That
is the extent of hull planking I will do.
