    Hi everybody and greetings from Ontario, CAD (I’ve seen a few other Canucks round these parts). Almost brand new to building model ships, I finished my first build, Occre’s Polaris, a few weeks back which seemed like a balanced introduction to various fundamentals, though there were certainly some hard lessons… I’ll get that bow planking right this time round, now that I’ve done some real homework…oh, and found out what fairing a hull means…*sigh* But for a first timer I’m happy with the final product Next up, The Terror… be “seeing” you all around!

    Very cool Jack: I too am brand new to the hobby and finished my first build, also the Polaris, a couple months ago. There is already a lot of personal flair apparent in what you’ve put together, kudos (nice deck stain). I was a slave to the letter of Occre’s plans during my build which in hindsight was…less than necessary. I’m very interested to see how attaching the deck ex-post facto goes, will be following.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build.
