A schooner!! Very nice framing and deck beams.

The Sailor got a reaction from GrandpaPhil in HM Schooner Pickle by The Sailor - FINISHED - Caldercraft - Scale 1:64
I‘m ready!!
Well, not everything looks perfect, but I‘m very happy with the result. Next weekend I‘ll try to make some better photos for the gallery. I‘m satisfied with the kit and for this price the quallity of the kit supplied materials is good. It was always a great pleasure building this little schooner.
Again thank you all for your kind words, all your ‚Like it‘ or even looking.

Hi Hamilton, no problem. Here she is:

Thank you very much, Hamilton.
Now here are some more pictures of the rig:
The rig is done now. At last there are some finishing touches in order. As you can see, all the belaying pins still need some rope coils.

Good afternoon
here‘s a small update after a long time. I‘m not in the mood for planking the deck so I decided to start with the deckhouse and the skylights.
The parts of the deckhouse:
Assembled deckhouse and skylights:
The components are now ready for staining

Thank you very much for all your nice comments and hitting the „Like“ Button.
Hi henryjames, I‘m looking forward to seeing your build log.
Hi Row, first of all you are a lucky man been aboard of Endeavour. Well, it‘s an odd hull form and - believe me - not everything looks perfect. But overall I‘m happy with the result and in doubt I can paint the whole hull.
Hi klimi, I‘m building her as the Endeavour of 1934.
Erik, the part straight above the rudder was indeed tricky to plank. As you can see on the photo, this part is moulded using wood filler.
Fortunately the vaneer stripes are very easy to bend.
Finally the last two photos:
The planked stern...
and the evidence...
...that the slot is still open!

Thank you very much, guys.
Alfons, the area is to big for painting so I'll use my airbrush.
Well, time for a little update. Some more rows on and time for planking the keel.
Again I started with the bulb area covering using 3mm stripes
The rest was planked with the 5mm stripes

Thank you, Keith.
Well, here are some impressions of the sanded hull:
And here is the start of the second planking:

Sorry for not having made myself clear enough. The parts of the mast have to be glued together first. Using a rectangular block of wood could be helpful with the shaping. Here are the six parts:
Here you can see the height of the mast:
BTW, the first planking is done. Next is filling and sanding the hull.
It seems, Amati is very generous with the kit supplied material:
Well, it's not enough for a second Endeavour, but enough for planking the hull of a small vessel.

Thank you very much for the kind words, Ben.
A few more rows on. Still the first planking but an end is in sight.
Time for planking the stern. It was nearly impossible fixing the stripes with clamps or needles until the glue was dry. After one funky try I gave up and glued them with superglue.
And here‘s the final result:

I‘ve too little time but I‘m still busy.
The first frames are fully covered by the planks now. Here are some impressions:
Note the termination of planking at frame 9. The stern will be planked diagonally, in order to adapt the stripes to the bending.
Here you can see the only reason why the midship frame is a double frame:
The planks of the lean bow:

Thank you very much, Yves and Ben.
And here are the next photos showing the progress of planking the hull (first planking):
First I‘ve nearly finished the planking of the keel. As you can see on the next photos the 2mm planks have to be sanded down to the level of the 1mm planks.
And some more planks:

Good afternoon.
Everything is prepared for the first planking. I‘ve glued the two parts of the false deck to the hull.
Here are the filler blocks at the bow and the stern:
And here are the first planks using 2x2 mm stripes:
Those stripes are only for the lower keel section.
Although there were no problems at all the model is quite bulky because of it‘s length.

Ladies and gentlemen, ...
... and this is the official start of my build log.
Oh my God! In 1/35 scale Endeavour‘s parts are only big! Anyway, let‘s have a look at the first pictures. At this time all the parts are dry-fitted.
Here are the bow and the stern:

Hello,
today a huge box came in. When the rigging of my Pickle is done I‘ll start with the America‘s Cup yacht Endeavour.
The 1/35 scale kit includes laser cutted parts for the deck, keel and frames, limewood and mahogany planking material, brass and wooden fittings, photo etched brass details, cloth, plans, instructions in three languages (Italian, French and English).
Endeavour is a 130-foot (40 m) J-class yacht built for the 1934 America's Cup by Camper and Nicholson in Gosport, Portsmouth Harbour, England. She was built for Sir Thomas Sopwith who used his aviation design expertise to ensure the yacht was the most advanced of its day with a steel hull and mast. She was launched in 1934 and won many races in her first season including against the J's Velsheda and Shamrock V. She failed in her America's Cup challenge against the American defender Rainbow but came closer to lifting the cup than any other until Australia II succeeded in 1983.

The box
Frames and keel
Metal parts
Wooden strips for planking and the material for the mast
The deck and the wooden fittings
The building plans
The Amati kit is really impressive. The wooden parts are of good quality, only the sails are not sewn. Anyway, I can‘t wait laying the keel.

The Sailor reacted to Jim Lad in Amerigo Vespucci by laps - Panart - 1:84
Lars,
As the Vespucci's spanker gaff is "standing" - ie it doesn't hoist with the sail - it would be more usual for it to be fitted with a gooseneck rather than jaws as shown, but i can't find a photo of the ship that shows the gaff clearly. Do you have any photos of that area of the ship?

Nice of you to ask Pete!
Don't worry, I'm fine. It's just...well, sometimes I need a break.
