Have raised anchor and set sail again. Installed the carved bow filler pieces port and starboard carved to the rabbit line. Then installed (cemented) the aluminum tube rudder Bearing. The 3/32 rudder shaft was inserted thru the tube rudder bearing down to the the recess in the keel to assure proper alignment before cementing the bearing.

Started the adventure early this morning under a waxing moon and rain. Great conditions to sit with a coffee and assemble the ship. Building the keel was pretty straightforward. The instructions were a little vague depicting the stern assembly vs the bow. It all came together after looking on sheet 3 of the plans and seeing that a space is left between the keel and bulkhead 18 for the rudder shaft (1/8” aluminum tubing). Would have been nice if this was spelled out in the instructions. Time to drop the anchor and retire for the day.

Ready to begin a new sea journey. Having almost finished Amati Bluenose it’s time to set sail on a new adventure. The first was to pack necessary gear by picking up my trashed work area. Then opening the kit (Blue Model Shipways Box). The kit (gear) appears to be complete. I won’t bore everyone going thru the contents short of displaying photos ( if you need to, check other Picket Boat #1 logs). Will post as the adventure progresses!

A very nice micro drill that is inexpensive and I use it all the time is available on Ebay. It comes with some drills and diamonds and cut off wheels for under $20 I make a small starter point with a #11 xacto blade so the drill doesn’t skip. Works well and drills great. Mine is 2 years old and still works fine. Best part is you hold it like a pen and it is very accurate. Best Rick

Don’t feel bad we all have been very anxious to get on with our builds and in the end it always makes the problem worse. That is why most of us have more than one build at the same time. Between paint drying, ordering needed parts etc it takes our minds off the problem and before you know it the problem is over and we can continue without making the problem worse. I go by the saying Time Heals All Wounds and in this case it will. Best Rick

Thanks for the compliment. The answer is no my son and I are building the Midwest Chesapeake Crabbing Skiff. I bought the kit for him and I because he plans on building the real thing and it is very similar. He is an architect and is designing a kit to be laser cut of the boat he wants to build and we plan on building that one together before he builds the real thing. We will post a joint log when we start. Like most of modelers on this forum I have 3 ships in progress at the same time. Best Rick

Welcome Your planking looks great. My son and are building a kit at the same time even being a continent away. He’s in Ca and I am in Mass. We do it by phone 5 AM his time and 8AM my time. It’s a shame you didn’t have the opportunity to do it with your dad. It’s a great bonding experience. It’s my son’s first boat build but he is learning fast. One thing to remember You learn more from your mistakes than your successes!!! Your build looks great and your dad would be mighty proud of you. Best Rick (RVB)
