Few pictures of the last progress.
I must admit that Santa Maria is FINISHED

Today I have been treating my Santa Maria with oil. The outcome is really nice. The wooden elements have darkened, giving SM a new look.

Today's progress on dead eyes. I used a black paint to cover the brass wire. I have just ordered a blackening liquid so I hope that the results will be btter than the paint.
I think that I have achieved my goal. The dead eyes are in the line. I tried to tie the ropes carefully looking at the book written by Lennarth Pettersen.
It takes a long time to do it. The whole outlook shows her as if she was a very old vessel. That's my point to show Santa Maria as an old ship.
Here are some pics. Enjoy
Feel free to comment. I'd like to make this bulding log alive. Help me do this please.

After a long break, I'd like to show you what I have done recently. Finally the sail has been attached to the yard. The yard is on its position I'm going to leave the sails fully visible - it makes her look gracefully (my opinion).
Any comments - go ahead

Well, today it starts - Brazil x Croatia - Mixed feelings about it in here. Some ppl are complaining about the cost of it, others are using it to criticize government. Probably the majoraty just waiting for the games itself. For me, I´ll watch the games with no enthusiasm, but hoping Brazil wins the cup.

Really nice sails. Would like to see a full view picture of the ship with sails, though

Last week I´ve got myself entangled with my ship´s windlasses. On AL instructions there are 6 of them and so, I began to cut, sand and drill the small pieces of wood.
After lots of it, I realised AL didn´t send all the wood I needed - frustration! Got some time sorting it out till finally decided to use another type of wood from my scrapbox (this one, some brazilian wood - still have to know what type it is):
As the first attempt was a fumble, thought some testing would be great and read carefully about what the windlass should look. AL gave me some metal for bars, first I painted them black, to a poor result - after scanning lots of immages I found that metal wasn´t common for that purpose and so, made some bars from toothpicks:
Following, the barless windlass, and then, the ready one - already varnished (still shining):
Next entry I´ll bring the boxes and containers I´ll keep on junk´s compartment.
(After reading my own post and seeing my pictures, a thought comes to mind - I really do need more light for my workbench)

Pretty cool. Very nice carvings. And the replacement of this metal cast is far better than this "thing" attached to your model.

Last night I was rubbing down the rubbing strakes, (see what I did there?), as I wasn't happy with the gap that had formed between the outer strakes and the veneer that I added. So after rubbing the stain off I ran a tiny bead of cyano gel into the gap and sanded lightly with a coarse paper allowing the dust to settle into the groove. Then smoothed over with a fine grade and re-stained. Looks much better in my opinion.
Next up I started on the main deck waterways. The fore waterway had to be bevelled on the inside to sit flush on the deck/fore wall. The port/star waterways needed some shaping first. There was enough flex in the wood latitudinally to allow it to fit but I decided to soak/clamp and allow to dry to shape first. Then sanded, stained and fitted in place.
Currently I am working on adding the timberheads:
More later.

Thank you. For this build I am sticking to the instructions, no mitring strangely enough...
As for tarring or tallowed...really? It is a model after all. Sorry I just feel that there is a limit when it comes to accuracy...the way some of you guys talk you may as well just build the real thing

I must add my comment as it was one of the first... Dominic, youare RIGHT - the camera doesn't help. When I'm pleased with my result, I take a photo and when I see the photo, I'd like to eat it... (it reveals all the imperfectnesses - a tough word). Cheer upmate, keep going

Thanks for all the comments guys.
I must come across as a right stroppy diva! Really not the case. I think I may have over-reacted slightly for the reason that when you have done something you are really happy with and someone comes along and dismantles it with just a few words...it's kind of like a smack in the chops
Yes I know it's not the accepted method of planking. On a real ship that bow would have simply exploded outwards but I was concentrating, perhaps in hindsight too much, on surface quality. My camera doesn't help either. It's too good at highlighting things, in this case the rather, I believe the word used was unorthodox, Aztec planking, which isn't that visible with the naked eye. I was also playing the long game, as once sanded and varnished and then had all the ribbing added on, would barely be visible anyway.
I do think perhaps I had become complacent...as each new build I think, should I do it the right way this time...and I always convince myself no, get a bit more practice in first...my intention now with starting the Bounty Launch is that will require at least a few corrective planks, that will be my test bed.
