Wintergreen reacted to Siggi52 in HMS Tiger 1747 by Siggi52 - 1:48 - 60 gun ship from NMM plans
Hello,
there did't much happen last week. Last Monday I painted the first part of the upper frieze. But because the weather changed and it gets colder I went into the basement and forged the chain plates and today the rings for the gun ports.
I changed the colour of the flags to ocker, because the red flags where'd really visible on the dark blue background.
I let the cain plates etch, and because they should be in the middle 0,7mm and at the outside only 0,5mm I welded some tin on them. So that they bevels a little.
And today I made the rings for the gun ports lids. ☹️ They have an outside diameter of 2,2 and 1,8mm.

Hello and thank you for all the likes
yesterday I painted the rest of the upper frieze. As you may see, I'm back in my shop down in the basement. It's to cold now in my winter garden to work there.
And here a picture of the whole thing.

More update photos as promised. These show the gaff rigging and some of the topmast rigging. As mentioned earlier, these are Bluejacket blocks and Syren line.

Well, bit of a long overdue update.
I've been super busy at work, spending time outside over the summer, then I had Covid. So even though I've worked on the model a fair amount I haven't posted anything in quite awhile. Here we go.
I've completed nearly all of the rigging on the Latham. One thing I wanted to touch on first was the baggywrinkle. I puzzled long and hard over how to make this neatly and in scale. I am a fly fisherman/fly tier and it eventually hit me to use peacock herl, which is used for certain fly bodies. I used my serving machine to wrap it around the rigging line, and then subsequently painted with tan paint. Really happy with the way it came out. I'll have more updates over the coming days.

Hello and again, many thanks for your likes and nice comments, they are very appreciated
Today I finished painting the lower counter. This is the look from below (in this case from above)
and this from behind
Next I would paint the frieze left and right from the quarter deck. I would like to paint there trophy bundles. The question here is, should I leave out the gun ports, or the windows? Because the windows are also decorated with wreaths, I tend to paint over the gun ports. But first I have to make some drawings.

Break time is over. I decided that it was time to clean off the dust, dust and get back to making saw dust.......

Unfortunately I have to put my project on hold for a few weeks. My son has asked me to help out in his company full time for a few weeks. However, full time for him means seven days a week, so there is no time left for model building for the time being. I hope to be able to continue with my clipper during October.

Wintergreen reacted to bolin in Sloop from Roslagen by bolin - FINISHED - 1:50
The last piece added, the flag.
It's been a little over a year in the making, and now it is finished! My sloop from Roslagen.
It started in part as a project to hone my skills in clinker builds, to enable me to build the medieval long-ship. Along the way I have read a lot about these ships and as I learned more I have become more fascinated and interested. The research part of the build has definitely been one of the more rewarding aspects.
I also feel like I have learned a lot as a model builder during this project. Some of the choices I made early on would not be the same today. Primarily, I would not have made the hull from lime wood. I would have used something harder.

After a fair bit of thinking and planning the best order to rig the ship I have decided to most of it off board.
In preparation of that I temporarily stepped the mast so that I could tie the dead eyes with the correct length of shroud. As can be seen on the photo, the rake of the mast is forward. This would somewhat compensate for the unbalanced sail plan.
The fore stay dead eye could not be tied while the mast was stepped. The stay needs to be threaded through the hanks that has already been tied to the sail before that.
The main sail has been tied to the gaff and mast, and the running rigging has been installed.
And with the fully rigged mast, I can start to tie down the lanyards and adjust the position of the mast.

Hello and thank you all for your likes and comments,
today I'm finished the frieze. That was a lot of work, more then expected, but now it's done
The next thing to paint is now the lower counter.
If you like colourful ships, I uploaded yesterday 3 albums of Russian ship models from the 18. century, they have here in the Eutin castle museum.
https://www.schloss-eutin.de They where once a present of the Russian Tsar around 1806

Hello,
because the summer is gone here, since 4 weeks we have temperatures only around 20°C and every day rain 🙁, I decided that I should be better busy at the shipyard. So I started painting the starboard side. The first half is done 😓

And now two pictures of this week's efforts.

16. After deck beams
Time to finish the deck beams behind the bulkhead.
The deck beams round the helm port are reinforced with some carlings.
The last deck beams are laid.
Thank you very much for reading this log and for your likes and for your comments.
Till next week!

15. Bulkhead
The cockpit area and the stern section are separated by a bulkhead. As my model is half anatomic, I will make a half bulkhead: from starboard side to midship.
On the pictures you can see that I removed the thwart and the cockpit coaming arrangement, that is also the reason because I didn't glue the different sections in the hull yet.
In the bulkhead, a panel, below the thwart gives access to the stern section.

My last post is from April. I have not stopped building but my mother in-law has fallen terminally ill and she has taken most of my and my wife's attention the last couple of months. This is the update for now. The stern is coming together and have been working with gun port lids on lower gun deck.
Best regards

I managed to make hanks and attach them to the stay sail without too much trouble. I just hope that they will not come loose when I start the rigging.
After that, I have continued with the rigging. The shrouds and stays are waxed linen thread, which I had at hand.
I used my homemade serving machine, but gave up after I had served the shrouds. It either needs to be rebuilt or written of as a failure and replaced by a sturdier one. The main problem is to keep the tension in the line. The sides are too weak, so they flex inward.
The skipper has also been painted and is now ready to get onboard his new ship. He's from a set of figures by Preiser.

I have now started with the sails.
I plan to use paper. It is taped to a frame and I use a spray can with parchment colored acrylic paint. When the paper dries, it shrinks and becomes flat. I have previously tried to use a roller to paint paper for sails, but it was messy, and it was hard to get rid of the wrinkles.
The mast, boom and gaff has got the blocks attached. The mast top has also been painted in traditional colors. The green top and white band seem to have been rather common for these ships.

I short visit to the smithy, and we have an anchor. The parts are soldered together from brass wire.
The traditional type of anchors for the Stockholm archipelago is said to be grapnel anchors with five tines. I'm not sure if that is true, especially not for the later era of these ships. Most pictures and models I have seen shows a common stock anchor, in particular those with foldable stocks.
However, since my model is of a smaller type, and is from the later part of the 19th century rather than early 20th, I decided on the grapnel type. Maybe the grapnel type was also easier to make in the local smithies in the archipelago?
