  1. I finished the bow blocks and got a little more of the ship done. The bow sure turned out better than I'd expected.
  2. Yeah I don't know why they couldn't have just had the whole bottom covered in the 1/16" ply either but I'm hoping it turns out ok. I had considered just adding the ply at the front instead since there is plenty of extra scrap pieces to do so...I still may just pop off the blocks and try that but i'll see how finishing the bow turns out this way first.
  3. Well I put off attempting to carve the bow blocks until late last night and this is as far as I dare go with rough cutting. The remainder I will use sanding blocks. I was amazed I didn't mess it up.
  4. Last update for today probably. I just added the bottom and trimmed and finished that. Now I'm dreading the next step of carving and finishing the bow but it's gotta be done. So on to that.
  5. Just a quick update. I have the sides added, final fitted and trimmed and bow blocks added. I always hated carving large blocks on balsa aircraft kits I'd done. I'm always afraid I'll remove too much material no matter how careful I am. Hopefully I'm more successful with this.
  6. I see, I guess I assumed all ships came with sails or sail cloth. I don't mind making my own, I'd given it a try on my Albatros build and didn't do too terribly. I will give Popjack a shout and see if he can help.
  7. My Swift kit was supposed to come with presewn sails, but were missing entirely. I had contacted Artesania Latina about replacement sails via their parts request email address and also messaged them through their Facebook page but have yet to hear back at all. Is there another way to contact them?
  8. Thanks Wayne...This should be fairly simple to build since there is no planking. Just pencil drawn fake planks on deck and sheet wood for sides of hull.
  9. I Thought I'd take a little break from my other builds and try the Chesapeake Bay Skipjack by Midwest Products. So far I have the keel and decks finished. More updates to follow soon.
  10. I checked the keel just now after having soaked it with water and weighing it down flat on a table and it seems the twist has worked its way out. So today I'll be starting on the keel work at least. I will post pics and more updates as I get work done...thanks to those who are following my build.
  11. way cool...checking it out now, I love seeing the mad skills you guys here possess
  12. cool I'll check yours out and see what I can figure out as far as cannons too
  13. Yup that's my Corvair, fun lil car too...I've had the keel weighted down since late last night but will probably leave it alone until at least tomorrow morning, hopefully the twist will be out by then...what size cannons did you use?
  14. I'm thinking of adding at least 4 cannons to the ship once I get that far...it is 1:50 scale so what size cannons would I need?
  15. I tried taking a picture but I can't seem to get a decent one that isn't too blurry to see it well...it's not an awful twist but it is noticeable. I'll try wetting it and weighing it down and see if it does anything to it by tomorrow evening, although I'd assume it may take a couple days to dry out....hopefully that does the trick as there are no nearby hobby stores in my area and being sent a piece of plywood by mail, I could still run into the same problem, Id rather see what I'm buying for wood up front as far as that goes....but like I said, hopefully wetting and weights helps.
  16. I received the kit today, I was a bit worried since it was an opened kit and I was unsure of completeness but after inventory I found the kit to be complete...My only qualms are the keel has a pretty good twist in it....What is the most effective way of removing the twist? I assume wet down both sides and place on hard flat surface with weights on top and let dry (how wet should I get it?) or is there a better way to remove the twist? Other than that I've been bagging and labeling individual parts and sanding. I can hopefully begin assembly tomorrow if of course I can get the twist out of the keel.
  17. Thanks Richard but you forgot to include the link ;-)
