I've never done sails before either and that's what's stopping me from finishing my Albatros kit...I lack confidence I guess, even though several here have finished Albatros build and theirs look great and the pictures should be helpful in finishing mine.

Amazing job, now I have a better idea of how to rig out and add the sails to my Constructo Albatros ship.

Thanks Simon, I have been building balsa wood airplanes since childhood but only this year took up the wood ship building hobby...Good luck on your future builds and hope you can find the tools you need.

Nice build of your Boston Whitehall Tender...I just purchased this very same kit...This hobby is an addiction, I now have 8-10 kits waiting to be either completed or opened for the first time. Ya gotta love it.

I recently purchased a couple Midwest Products small boats to build until i'm more in the mood to build more on my tall ships. I bought the Muscongus Bay Lobster Smack and the Main Peapod and just finished the peapod. I mainly bought the Peapod to better acquaint myself with hull planking and it turned out pretty nice. I still need to build the lobster trap in the instructions but saving that for later and still deciding on a paint scheme. I posted a build progress video on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZqn-OxwAxM and adding some pictures here also...I hope you like it.

The Midwest Products Skipjack kit I have calls for anti-fouling red and assume the lobster smack calls for the same but I don't have access to the Midwest Apprentice boat paints. What color in Testors brand would be close to the anti-fouling red? I just ordered this lobster smack myself and it won't be delivered for several more days but I'd like to round up the paints and supplies I need to get ready for the build.

Hey Madchemist, I've used just regular white glue for gluing down brush, rocks and twigs etc. for dioramas I've done of WW2 model kit vehicle scenes. Also Hobby Lobby sells some great diorama kits including water scenes, desert scenes and woodland scenes and bases too.

I'm thinking about getting one of these very soon. Looks like a really cool boat. Great job on yours. EDIT: I just bought one on Amazon for less than $20.00 and can't wait to tackle this after some other builds. This is becoming an obsession lol. I'm really liking this hobby.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
