Just a bit of work tonight on the bench  - I decided to work on the Barbette funnels, I cut these from the frets and cleaned them up then placed them on some tape, I decided to shade them by applying a darker shade on the edges and in the grooves, next I applied an almost dry coat of mid grey.
When dry tomorrow I will glue them in place around the front of the Barbettes.

    Just the one pic folks.

    Hello everyone
I have built ship models since I was 14 years and then it was kits, after my children grown up I started to scratch build The 7 Provincien I started building my model in 2000 in a workshop I had in my garage, but since 2005, work have been down because I divorced and moved abroad. but now when I come back to Sweden I start to build again

When the hull was on the keel and in the supports I drilled hole and insert a pinn in two places throw the floor of the frames in the keel in all of the frames, after that I was able to draw in every line I need i.e. upper and lower cills and the sides in all gun ports, the position of the wales and mark the places for every deck on the inside of the hull and so on

After that I take a stripes of wood and placed them on strategic places on the outside of the hull and drill a hole and pin the strips to all the frames in the hull with an ordinary sewingneedle

Again the same stage of building now I can take apart a block from the hull and remove the Abaci wood who is in between the frames and I prepared every frame, sawing for the gun ports etc after that I glue and pin the frame on its given place on the keel and put the needles back in place on the sides

Here are all frames prepared and the hull is sanded to shape, the hull holds together mostly by the cills on the gun ports. By the way I forget to mention I build the ship in beech for the frames and  Cherry for the keel and planking

Next stage was to plank the inside of the hull, here I put some planks in and the clamps for the lower gun deck, the clamps are made in Beech wood. My intentions is to build the ship so close to the real ship as possibly with all decks except for the trossdeck

The aft control tower is similar to the front one, just a little smaller and the only real addition is the control arms that go the end covers. A simple fabrication.

You can see the little fly wheel I have used to create rivet lines.

The tower it sits on has gun controllers which I will add later, the sum total of the parts don't seem to add up to much, and I have added rivet lines throughout and I have added handrails, replaced the support struts in white card and extra rails on op that are not mentioned by tamiya. About a days work.

Final shots of where she sits on the ship

I would like to second this suggestion. Making sails can be very challenging and interesting.
It requires some new skills (like carving wood was new to me) and perhaps the use of a sewing machine (my wife's and no harm done).
But it also involves selecting material and all the details of how to finish the edges, etc.

So how do we get started?

Next day the frame is ready for further treatment: Sanding with the drum sander.
You see the result on the second picture. Holding the frame in hands, I am bit surprised of the size of a 1/24 scale frame. Compared with a frame of another project, a 1/20 scale shrimper, it looks enormous.

After sanding, I drill holes for the treenails. Some wood glue in it (goes easy with syringe) and then the bamboo nail.

On the plans, no limber holes are marked. I although think that they existed, so I make them, hoping that they are correct.

Thank you very much Carl and Michael,

    and all the "likes"...

    Carl,
the etched stair sides and the steps are only folded and you`re right, afterwards (after priming and painting) glue into place with a drop of CA

    Michael,
right, I agree, although I have highest respect for the skills of those professional builders work in much earlier days

Here is a little update .......
on the making of the aft handrail portion in place where the railing performs the rounded bend. I tried several times two flat bend the mahagony handrail by wetting and soaking, with and without heat, etc, very frustrating and without success. Then came the idea not to flat-bend over the 1,5 mm wide side, but to flat-bend and laminate 3 single 0,5 mm thick strips with CA and with help of a little jig, Sigh of relief, it worked out well. Only have to mount and carefully sand down to the required flatness

Hi albert, thank you for your comment, I continue to pass some more images of the formation of the balustrade top stern garden in small strands of pear tree 2.5 x2.5 m / m. And the upper lateral gardens with strips of 2.5 / 3.5 / 5 x2,5 m / m.

WBlakeny reacted to Baker in Golden Hind (ex-Pelican) by Baker - FINISHED - scale 1/45 - Galleon late 16th century
    Hallo,
    First.
A replica is build of the Spanish galleon San Juan.
    Great site and beautiful work
    http://www.albaola.com/en

Now : The  orlop deck, planking and hatches
Most of this deck will not be visible when the ship is ready.
I see this work as an exercise to gain experience in deck planking.
And if someone looks through a cannon port or a hatch. This will give a better view.

There are little or no archaeological finds of decks from English galleons.
    Only from one ship wreck.

One frame was cut out to low. this was adjusted.

A first layer of planks is laid and sanded. In order to obtain an even surface

    The waterway is been placed.

A possible layout of the deck
There may be only 12 cannons installed instead of 14 (the helm can possibly be in the way)

hatches to the lower cargo space

    Every time I looked at frame 1. I got a headache ....

    So frame 1 was improved.
Much better now. No more headache

The second and final layer of planking is placed and sanded.
I was so absorbed in this work that I forgot to take pictures while planking the deck

Now to to the dummy frames that will be visible in this deck
1 test assembly of frames and a gun port was made

I'll just lay one  layer of planks on the hull
    So
The next step is to fill the space between the lower part of the frames.
And adjust the frame of the transom

But it is too wet and cold outside in my garden to do this And I have no indoor space where I can turn on my sawing machine   So back to plastic military modeling.       Index : see post 1   Groetjes Greetings   Patrick

WBlakeny reacted to stripehunter in HMS President 1760 by stripehunter - Sergal - 1:60 - on hold
Back at it again.  Cracked open the box on one of my shelf kits, the sergal president.  I want to build this kit pretty much as designed documenting it as well as I can.  The internet is rather empty of logs for this kit.  Considering this kit is often found cheaply online, this log could be of good use to people.

As a ship, it has some issues.  It's a fictitious ship, described as a frigate but more appropriately a sloop of war I think.  Armed only with 12 carronades, many of which lie behind the main chains.  I think they took a kit designed as a merchant hull, slapped some carronades on it and called it a frigate.  Still, i think it a nice enough looking little ship.  My main interest in it is that the hull and size look very similar to my first swift build, but there's a significant step up in rigging complexity as well as some gun ports to cut.  Hopefully this ship will give me the confidence to move into the more advanced ships I really really want to build (first of which being the latina constellation I also have on the shelf already)

Instructions could probably be considered horrible.  Consists of two pages of translated text mostly referring to the drawing/illustrations.  I think for the most part I'll be winging it just going by the pictures.

The only modification I see making is to shift the chains or gunports or both so the carronades wouldn't dismast or burn the ship just by firing.

I'm determined to log my hours this build.  I got the main plywood sheet cut out.  First evening unboxing and cutting out all the pieces was 1.5 hours.  I will say the laser cuts were much cleaner and clearer than those on my AL Swift.
