For the technical pens Kimberly...you can find them at any hobby or art store...Michaels, www.dickblick.com has them too. As I meentioned earlier a .25 or .35 will do nicely. BTW, you are doing great on your model...you are doing nbetter than I am on my Bireme...Good luck and happy modeling....

Very good Kimberly! Sorry to ask but is this a plastic kit or wood? If it is plastic I can help you paint the intricate details at the stern and bow. It helps to use a Rapidiograph Ink filled pens. They are technical pen for drafting and a .25 would work great. Chose from a wide variety of colors of acrylic ink and dab on with the pen point. Very easy, very clean, and you receive a professional look if you take your n time.

    Best wishes to you Kimberly!
    Enjoy.

    Hello Kimerly,

I really like the manner in which you have laid out your model in sections. This reminds me as a mechanic working on Jet Engine Components overhauling items like waterpumps, fuel pumps, oil pumps, etc...I laid my parts out in the same manner but isn't it funny I failed to do the same with my model. Looks like I have to learn all over again. I believe your model will turn out brilliant and cannot wait to see the finished product. Best Wishes.

A couple of photos showing the work mentioned in my previous post. Lots of work to do but looking a bit better this morning. I will continue to post my progress later. Need more work completed on main deck aft and to the right.

Been working since 4:30 am on aft section where the grating should go. I have before pictures and after pictures. I am thinking the after will be a final conclusion with the exception of planking the stern sides in. I am not going to cut or drill hills into this piece because thus far it has looked sloppy. Any suggestions and or comment would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !!

Following are 2 photos of what I was attempting to do with the grating aft...I am not pleased and feel my craftsmanship is little to be desired. I wanted some critique to see a better approach.

But first, let me say before I even started on this aft section I remembered I have a good size stack of 1/16" Birch wood that is just sitting on a shelf. So I began to think of replacing the 1x4x.5 planks with a cutout of the area with the Birch. I was successful at cutting a piece that slipped right into the exterior framing quite nicely. All I have to do is drill holes at 5/64" to show where the water would drain to keep vessel from pitch-poling upon being hit by a rogue wave.

My problem with this approach seems to be just how much of a realistic look I need to achieve. I am looking for a clean look which will look better than the kit part. I figure this is a good approach but was wondering if anyone had any ideas.

I am looking online to research the grating for the Xebec and potentially discover a better way.

(Actually, I am ashamed of the 2 photos I will show but some of you folks with more experience may be able to help.)

These instructions in the Amati kit (to me anyway), are difficult to understand. I also feel this is an opportunity to advance a scratch built section of the vessel but really need to see real time photos of the actual build from someone else.

Thanks for allowing me to ramble on. It is 4:30 AM where I am and I am half asleep.

A small amount of filler for the small opening....trim is in and now off to do the planking of stern sides. This will be stained a light Oak as the main and aft decks.

Such superior craftsmanship!! I have enjoyed watching your progress and innovation. Sometimes I suppose we have to compromise a little kit instructions for our own ingenuity and if this is the case, you have done a brilliant job! Congratulations friend!

Excellent job you have done here!!! My Xebec is by Amati and instructions all in Italian. This is only my second build, the first was a Bireme that I have set aside for I am waiting for the right time to get back to her.

Your planking and all in my view are superior quality. I only hope I can do as well.

    Warm Regards,

thank you to one and All for your kind remarks and encouragement, I will be painting the hull within a couple of weeks.

On Friday I will be taking the pilot cutter to the Seba Pavilion (a stones throw from the water) for a local library summer programming activity launch) no not the cutter but I decided not to rush things and try to get a finish paint on the hull for Friday but to see how easy it will be to de-rig and re-rig her, so to that end I dropped the mast with the minimum of fuss by just slackening the shrouds, that's the nice thing about mounting on the deck I did not have to pull the mast out of the hull. the whole operation took about 5 minutes.

My it does look big in the living room.

    Hi Ollie,

No worries for you I am sure. You are greatly skilled, gifted, and quite knowledgeable, and I will look forward to watching your build mature into the beauty the Endeavour truly is. As a pen & ink artist, this was one of my favorites I rendered....along with the USS Constitution and the HMS Victory. I rendered approximately 15 vessels in several years in pointillism. Well, keep in touch, and best wishes to you and your Endeavour........
