    Thanks Sam, another little bit. I've finished the "seams" at the top of the bow running back. Started on the forward swinging boom. When I was looking for the parts, it already screwed me eyeballs !!! the boom itself is 3.7cm (just over 1.5") long ... go figure, I get a splittin' headache from the Musashi guns, what will this give me ...
     
    I found an image which is easier on the eyes, than the one I've got for the build instructions
    The second boom, the stowed one is even smaller, but has the same nice little parts to it. Ken, if you start her, you are in for some fiddly bits ...

    Thanks for the likes and comments.   Time for a proof of life update.
     
    Life has gotten quite a bit quieter lately, which is good.  So I focused on these little boats.  The barge (the middle sized one) jig went well and so deciding to be bold and do both at the same time, I started on the cutter jig.  Hmm... not so good.  It's smaller and everything is proportionally more fragile.  So.... spent a lot of time remake parts that I broke in the fitting.  I solved the breakage problem by reducing down the laser marking in thickness and expanding the "bits" that hold the pieces together.  Ended up coating many of them with 2 coats of white glue and water.  Seems to work and tests say I'll be able to snap those naughty bits on the lines without damage.
     
    The jigs are built, the keels installed with few other necessary bits and pieces and I'm ready to start actually building the boats.  So, I'm off to fix the ribs and start planking.  Here's a photo of the jigs and the larger boat (finished).  The Longboat (finished) is 6 inches long (152.4mm), the barge is 5 inches (127mm), and the cutter is 4 inches (101.6mm) long.

    Thanks for the comments, the likes, and sticking with this journey.   No worries on the dime anymore... I spent it.
     
    I made the chocks and installed them into the Licorne.  I've since been attacking the drawings making fixes for error areas discovered on this boat.  Here's some pictures of it in place.  It's not glued in yet as I need access to the area astern where the mainmast goes.  Once I'm done figuring out if I need to pre-installed suitable lengths of line for rigging the mast, I'll do that.  I suspect this will keep me off the streets and out of trouble for a few days.

    A bit of an update....  deck planking is down, the seats are in place and some visible boo-boos have been fixed.   I still have to oarlocks, cannon posts, and the sheave on the stern.  Overall, I'm happy.   A few things I'm not thrilled about but....  we'll see when I'm done with this. 
     
    I'm not sure where that black line across the last photo came from...

    Time for an update on Licorne.  "Yippee!" he says.    
     
    The longboat has been planked and removed from the building jig.  Overall, I pretty happy with it.  It's not perfect but can be fixed.  Worst case is bin it and the next one will be better but for now, I'm going to attempt the "fixes".  I needs more sanding, perhaps a bit of filler.  I go with filler, I'll find some stain or paint to resemble the planking wood.  I need to finish cleaning it up inside and out, adding the rest of the internal ribs and the decking.  I'm not adding too much internal detail as this one is on the bottom of the stack of 3 ship's boats.  What's a bit scary is they get smaller...  
     
    Here's the photo's before and after removing it from the jig.  Yes, there's a bit of damage, but after finding the bits in the trash pile, it's been fixed.  The first three on "on jig" and the second three are after the jig has been removed.

    Back to the flight deck. Soot, rubber steaks, stains at the end of each plank. I’m going to have to use a very fine set of lines for tail hook strikes.

    Small update, bow deck flag, and the catapult covers (open position) each of which have 27 gussets.

    I cut them before the metal was attached. 
     
    The rear flight deck, supports added plus a few stabilisation struts made from offcuts, paint, rust, rudders now it can stay on the stand. Notice the angle of the rudders which is more like the real thing.

    The lid is on, hardest part of the build now needs a full day of touch ups and the rear support struts under the flight deck. I’ll have to pull off half of the support gussets and glue them flush to the hull. 
     
    Everything above the flight deck line can be done after everything below it is finished. Armaments will be done second last to the aircraft. 
     
    The massive holes cut cut in the front of the flight deck will house the catapults.

    Grunge part 1: using a wash for grey ships to bring out the ringols and panel lines.

    All three colours done. Lots of little touch ups to go then some filters. Not ready for weathering yet. The hull is huge.

    Using Tamiya fine red primer (rattle can) I’ve only spotted a few faults that will need sanding. I can proceed with putting the rest of the hull togeather and the rest of the priming can be done with an airbrush

    15 cm gun housings. I had to cut the barrels off at the stem and drilled holes into the stem to place the aftermarket barrels. I then had to file the tops so they can actually move / rotate inside the hull. The colour photo shows one of the ship’s real guns in Norway.

    Hi all,
     
    Well finally been able to get some things done that tangibly move things forward.  The area around the mainmast is one of the more interesting and complex areas to get situated.  All of these items were scratchbuilt, which of course resulted in the usual re-does as the geometry is critical to get right as the pump axel and cranks need to align with minimal tolerances.
     
    Capstan and aft coamings now glued into position, the deck beam needs to be modified to allow the capstan to be positioned appropriately.

     
    Little bit of rework on the pumps, the simulated leather washer I had previously painted kept jumping out at me and was a little too 'in your face'.  Stripped this off and went with what seems to be a more traditional modeling approach to use layer of wood to simulate the gasket and plug. Here they are in final position.

     
    The main jeer bitts were then positioned first once the pumps were in place to finalise the dimensions of the middle pump brakes.  The kit supplies some PE for these, but knew that these would never be satisfactory and have been planning to make my own.  The supplied wire is around 0.8mm, so 1mm square styrene sections were drilled and cut to give a little more of an authentic look to the winches.  To say this process is delicate and frustrating is an understatement - once drilled, the there is barely any structural strength to the styrene around the hole.  The aft winches were made in one piece which allowed them to be aligned relatively easily and secured using thin CA which worked quite well.  Once glued, the styrene was then gently filed to give a hint of the actual shape.

     
    Rhodings were made out of boxwood and painted, to my eye this gave a little better scale look.  The stanchions had been made previously, and notches cut into the deck beam to allow these to be secured.

     
    The stanchions were finalized and installed...making the second curved bracing element to be the same as the first took a lot longer than expected.

     
    The layout of the main topsail sheet bitts dictates that the winches need to made separately reflecting actual practice.  These longer winches proved much more challenging than the shorter ones, and many were attempted before 2 acceptable ones were completed.

     
    Elm tree pumps were shaped from boxwood stock, and the PE fittings came from an extra set I found left over from my Snake build.  These were fun items to make up, but will not be finally fixed just yet as they are very delicate.

     
    Overall shots with everything in place shows just how crowed this area really is.  Overall, very happy with how this ultimately turned out.  The main topsheet bitts align underneath the deck beam at the forward end of the quarterdeck.
