I have also tried to make a grating (it is made from longitudinal wooden laths - they were also used on English ships from that period), but I do not have any accurate plans or images that could help me with a realistic appearance. Now I'm thinking about design of seats of ease, I have several options but I am not sure, which of them is suitable for Royal Katherine from 1670... If you have historically more accurate information, I will be very grateful for your help.

    Best regards,

Now I continue with the construction of the bow. I had to make some changes to achieve more realistic design by Vale´s painting. BTW, I have found inspiration in the photos of this Sheldon´s model:

    Hi everybody,

I realize I have been away from MSW for way to long. So here is a quick update.
Well Kingfisher is somewhat in the mothball as I had trouble to keep motivated building the inner planking. I had some other projects going on in my workshop like building a semi full size router/tablesaw combination, some furniture and a side step into paper modeling.
The biggest project started beginning of this year when I was approached for a new job. It involved relocation to Sweden so that kept me and my wife very busy. Meanwhile we have been living here in Sweden for a little over a month now. My workshop is back in business, allthough all current projects are related to the house. But it should not take too long before I could comence with some modeling. Wether it will be paper or wood I’m not sure yet.

So I’m still alive and kicking.

My plan is to produce a fully framed model at 1/32 scale using the framing scheme that found in the Contarina 1 wreck. Here is my framing plan:

The new master frame modified according to the instructions of the Libro di Navigar.  My previous depth of hold was incorrect. Interestingly the master frame now matches that of Contarini 1.

It sounds like the Scrum method in software development ... as Mark said, a beautful philosophy, and a perfect way to work on the different parts of the build. Remco has a signature much a like: "Treat each part as if it is a model on its own, you will finish more models in a day than others do in a lifetime."

    Hello Marc,
you are right, I would save some time if duplicated it in resin castings.
In fact, for me it is no problem to create plenty of sculptures and pieces of decoration in the same/or similar way by hand.I really enjoy this kind of work.I prefer to make each piece as an original and in a higher level of detail and quality. I suppose that our ancestors also carved all parts of decoration by hand and each one was unique. So I would like to follow their tradition when building this model as well.

Dear friends, here's the last part of the video series, you can also find in my tutorials previous parts. I must say, this is my older technology, now I have much better way, how to create sculpures and decoration in a higher level of details.
Thank you all for your feedback and "likes", I am pleased and very honoured you like my work.
I will write more next week and  bring new pics from the progress.

    Best regards,
    Doris

Hi everyone - work on the ship continues(slowly).  Working on the head rails,I was hoping they would go a little smoother than the stern work - not so.  The upper head rails are pre-cut from 1.5mm plywood & attach to the bottom of the samson posts which are pre-cut from 5mm plywood - glued end to end. So what I did was make the .8mm brass bar for the trim a bit long to overlap the post for strength, plus I tapered the inside part of the post to make a better transition to the much thinner rail. The plans show using some 1mm brass wire for the trim, but I thought that looked a little cheesy,so I used square brass bar instead. The middle head rail was pretty straightforward & fit where it was supposed to.  The lower head rail was shown attached to the bottom of the cat davit support knee, but to do so it would fowl the first gunport, plus it would be impossible to bend the 1.5mm plywood to conform to the curve of the hull without breaking it. So instead I fastened it to the rear edge of the samson post/upper head rail assembly.  The rails were painted black, with the yellow pinstriping in the center before glueing in place. After the rails were glued in place, the short pieces were added between the rails. Still need to finish the starboard side, then work on the bow gratings.

    Hello dear friends,
thank you very much for your feedback, kind words and all the "likes". I do appreciate it a lot and it is a great honour and motivation for me.

People often ask me about this and I have already answered many times.   In fact, there is not a problem with a dust in this room, cause there is limited movement of persons. My pets are not allowed to enter this room.  My husband and me usually sit in the armchairs, listen to music and enjoy the beauty of the ships.... Some of them are illuminated which creates a special atmosphere in the dark. Only once in a few years I take the models out and gently clean them using a soft brush...

    About making sails...
I mainly use stiff thin fabric (named batiste) dyed in tea but for the Royal Katherine I have new ideas and will use better technology. Of course, I am going to share here with you.

Great tutorial, thank you for sharing. The result looks very nice.

Well, dear friends, it's time to bring new pics from my project....
I continue with decoration on QG, there are quite plenty of gilded pieces and also larger sculptures in the roofs. I had to create the decoration according to other ships from this period (I find inspiration at museum models, historical paintings and drawings - mainly by Van de Velde) cause in Vale´s painting there are no exact details at this area.
