it is a minicraft lathe attachment....not made anymore but can be picked up on ebay…...the two rods are not long enough in the kit so i bought some stainless steel rods to extend the range of the lathe.

single malt whisky cabinet.....and a decent heater... -
yes spot on...the rest of the planking will replace the part of the false keel you remove.

Me....I am not bothered one bit about the accuracy of the kits I build...whether one colour is right or wrong or if this bit is right or wrong...My corel Greyhound and Victory have had little or no modifications to the materials supplied. Me I just enjoy my hobby. I am not a historian so details don't bother me.....I go to my workshop and just build, sometimes get frustrated and annoyed when things don't go right but it keeps be busy and whether my ships or accurate or not I really don't care.....I have a model that looks great to me. Is the real Victory accurate?....I don't know.....not a lot of people seem to know...so I accept the Victory in Portsmouth as having been a great battleship and historically important ....me I accept Her in all her glory.....right or wrong....I don't care....I don't suppose She does either. Be thankful She is still with us......even if most of Her has been replaced over the hundreds of years of Her existence.

Just popped by for look at Black Pearl.....looks superb...the ghostly shades are perfect.

Pieter Be careful though when you thin the false keel not to remove to deeply or you will have a very thin false keel. The first and second planking can also be sanded back to achieve the right result.
-
I have trimmed the keel a little to accommodate the 2 layers of planking. The first planking has also been thinned in the corresponding area to ensure a nice smooth even contour down to the area where the rudder will fit.

hello from the UK....

as the great Rolling Stones would say......Paint it Black...(main yard)….notice the plans near the anchor.....that is my workshop mouse who has eaten them. He often comes out to watch me work....quite a friendly chap he is.
-
I extended the minicraft lathe attachment with two longer stainless steel bars. The original one does not extend to that length......it does the job reasonably well I just have to support the longer yards with my fingers as I sand or turn.
-
a complete mess of a worktop you mean?.....I am not the tidiest of workers but I get by.....must have a tidy up today...
-
not posted many pics of Bellona's progress lately so here are a few...…….I think she looks like a ship...…….masts have not yet been fixed.

About the NRG
If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.
The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.
The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
