Recommended Posts

I just completed adding a coat of sanding sealer to the hull, this has a dry time if 1 hour.

Cheers,

I have a question to those who have used a sanding sealer.   Would it be a good idea to apply a second coat of sanding sealer after my final sanding of the hull?

  • 2 weeks later...

Greetings,

Just finished the second of sanding sealer on the PT hull, I hope to get a coat of primer on it by the weekend.  In the mean time I have been working on the Chart house and day cabin.  I used my bench mounted belt sander to work them down to the correct height, as you can see by the pencil mark on the chart house I have a little more work to do!   :)

Cheers,

Tim

Greetings,

As you can see, I didn't get the hull painted.  It seems like you have been hearing the same old story, actually the weather hasn't been good for spray painting on my screened in porch.  There has been too much wind blowing, and I really need a calm day to use the air brush.

So, I figured I would go on to the next step.  In my earlier post I was working the chart house and cockpit to the correct height, once that was completed I needed to make sure the chart house conformed to the camber of the hull.  I accomplished this by placing a piece of sandpaper on the deck and slowly worked it back and forth until it had a snug fit to the hull.

A word of warning, I probably wont be able to paint the hull this weekend, my daughter is getting married on Saturday and the Admiral has given me my marching orders...

Cheers,     :dancetl6:

Thanks Russ,

It's been a joy to work on, BlueJacket Ship Crafters did a fantast job with this kit.  I'm also currently working on their half hull kit of the Endeavor, that kit is also exceptional, which makes me look forward to building their kit of the USS Kidd.  Thanks again for the kind words!

I have not built any of their kits, but Bluejacket is a really good company. I have bought supplies from them on many ocassions and they are really good people and fun to do business with.

Please post a log on the half hull.

I haven't built one of their kits either.......I do however,  have an old kit of the PT-10,  put out by marine Models back in the forties.   Haven't done too much with solid hull.........I'm sure the techniques you've gone by,  will be a good reference source.   I love PT boats as well...it will be cool to watch yours  grow.

Popeye,

What scale is your PT Boat kit?  If it's 1/48 scale you should be able to get some parts from BlueJacket if you have any missing from your kit!

no....everything seems to be there,  although I may have to use newer woods.  it's going to be a while before I get to her anyway,  so she's neatly tucked away until then.   I'll keep this in mind though....thanks! :)   so, what color are you going for.......the bluish gray,  or the olive drab-ish?

Jim,

I have seen that PT boat a few time. I have taken my son to Battleship Cove a couple of time. Once when we gone there it was during one of there shows which I didn't know about and man now that was something to see. If anyone ever gets a chance it is worth seeing Battleship Cove.

Wacko

Joe :D

The trip to Battleship Cove is on my "Bucket List,"  I also want to visit the USS Salem and then head up to Mystic Seaport for a visit.

Greetings,

As stated earlier in my build log, my wish was to get a coat of primer on the hull this weekend, it finally happened, Victory!

(Well any way a small victory for me...)   :dancetl6:

I used a sanable automotive prime that would take either Acrylic or an Enamel top coat.

Cheers,

Tim

One of the things about this boat is all of the various models there were.  You are going to have a lot of fun detailing and outfitting it.  Keep up the good work.

Thanks David,

I plan on building her as one of the early 80 footers.  I'll keep all for tubes on her, if I can fine 1/48 scale depth charges I'll add them also

If anyone knows where I can find 1/48 scale depth charges I sure would like to here about it!

Cheers,

Tim
