Senior ole salt Posted January 31, 2017 #1 Posted January 31, 2017 Still working on my scratch built sloop "Providence". I'm rigging it with sails and on a close reach. This means that some rigging needs to be slack, like running back stays on the leeward side, windward jib sheets, foot ropes etc. Achieving this with a uniform curve would make the model look really under sail. I did apply a sanding sealer. but I want to stain the untreated floor boards which are walnut. Thanks S.O.S.
mtaylor Posted January 31, 2017 #2 Posted January 31, 2017 The easiest way is to paint the rigging with some matte varnish or use a 50/50 mix of white glue and water. Blue Ensign Posted January 31, 2017 #3 Posted January 31, 2017 I'm a fan of having a combination of slack and taut lines on a model, mainly to impart a sense of weightiness to the lines. I use the diluted pva method, painted on, and the sag formed either by weights or rolling a paintbrush handle over the line. The advantage of diluted pva is that the line can be further adjusted by re-wetting. B.E.
