Here are some photos of how I made the iron strapped blocks for the anchor tackle.

Usual copper wire. In pic #2 I was a bit to slow with the torch. "well, lets just make another one shall we?"

Here is the #2 try. Soft soldered since I don't have any hard soldering paste (yet). In the last picture the copper is painted because the soft solder did not take the blackening.

And finally, the work with the dingy.

The provided plywood sheets were warped and of very soft material. I will use them as templates only.

Here is the keel assembly with stem and stern glued and dowelled. Behind lays the plug that I will use for planking. The red paint on the frames is an idea that I will credit Dafi (Daniel) for. It makes it so much easier to see when it is time to sanding...

Great progress, Håkan, it's nice to see the dinghy under way now.

Yep, its been lurking in my mind for over 20 years, and feels really good to finally get it out in 3D.

Happy modelling!

is that the kit keel for the dinghy?   the one I had seemed a bit different.   I didn't have to make a plug since it came with formed ribs.  are you making it scratch?....semi scratch?

my first build was the nordkap.....it spent over 20 years in an attic.   the wood was a little hard to work with, but it was OK.   truth be told, with the effort you've put into the Regina.......your scratch built ship's boat will surely come out better than the kit supplied one.  I'll look forward to your update.

So, work continues slowly with the dingy.

Current state is that the garboards are on. And the next strake under way. But no pictures of that.

Here is at least a picture of the backbone and the rudder. So you get something for checking up this post ;)

What teaser ... You are manufacturing inside-out wooden cloth peggs aren't you? If not I'm at the wrong build log  :o  It's that what I need for building models ... Thanks, they do look great. I've started modifying some of mine according to specs shown.

I've done some clothes pins like that,  but I have them the other way.......no matter.  it may be a tease Hakan,  but I can't think of a better way to hold those planks in place.   I do like eye candy though........:)

Admittedly being a bit silly in the last few post (my apologies Robert!) here is a proper update...

The job on this dingy will not make history apart from being the item that concludes this Regina build.

First I opted to use some veneer which would make true to the scale thickness. This proved to be above my present skill level (or I just was a bit off). So I fell back to use the supplied strips of soft obechi. Easy to bend once wet, but also easy to make marks in (be it finger nails, crocodile clips or cloth pegs...)

HOWEVER, it is enough material to take some sanding. (*pfieewh*).

My set up for this planing experience is not the best, which the first shot reveals.

post-6-0-15188800-1413881728_thumb.jpg

After some light improvement this is how it looks now. With current status of the planking.

I will give you the ugly truth (macro shot) of the first 4 strakes later and also how I opt to "hide" them...

Until next time (which will be some days in the future, as always) T'a!

Håkan,

That's some very careful, ingenuous clamping you are doing. I like the tie raps (only miss the duck tape ;) ). No kiddin' it does look good.
