Brazilian Newbie

Hello Everyone,

 

I was an airplane modeler during my school years in Brazil. I always loved to build small models of any kind: airplanes, ships, trains, etc.
But in Brazil, the prices for such things are really punitive. The price for a good used car for a nice ship model!

 

Since I came to the USA I've been meaning to start building a ship model but as everybody knows, things aren't so simple. Finally, I got myself, my first ship model, an ARTESANIA LATINA 1:25 H.M.S. Bounty's Jolly Boat.

 

I am thinking that ship modeling must have significant similarities with airplane modeling (balsa made ones), so I decided to start with a small ship and to learn the needed skills for a big project later.

 

My long term ambitions: be able to build any model I want. :-) Maybe an HMS Victory (cliche?).

In the meantime, I don't know anything about the materials and techniques (I know how to work with wood, tools, etc.) and will need a lot of help from you guys.

 

I think that is it! Eager to start learning and building my first model in the process.

Smart of you to start with a small project. I think most of us who bring some kind of modeling background to our first efforts at wooden ships would agree that ships still present their own unique set of challenges.

 

BTW, congratulations to Brazil on their Copa America victory -- I watched almost all the games, including the final.

I would advise you to search the build logs for your kit.

You may find solutions and advice for most problems you encounter.

Dry fit the parts and read and reread the instructions to gain familiarity with parts and the assembly process.
