USS Constitution by Trippwj - Ship in BOTTLE Kit - Modelkrafter kits

Recommended Posts

While in the process of cleaning out our storage bin in preparation for a major move later this summer, i came across a kit that we had bought several years ago when on a visit to Maine.  Figured it was time to dust it off and maybe give this one a try when I need a change of pace from the other ones!

Wayne,

That looks an interesting project. How old would you say the kit is? The artwork on the box has a definite '50s/'60s feel to it though the content looks quite modern.

Good afternoon, Ian.  I believe we bought it sometime in the 2005 time frame, so could be anywhere from 8 to 30 years old at this point.

Skerryamp - that is cool!  I had completely forgotten we had this until the Admiral found it in one of boxes that has been stored away for quite some time!

Welcome aboard, Anja.  Always a seat for you!!!

No scale listed on the box or plans, but based on the length of the Connie (about 200 ft) and the model (3 inches) appears to be about 1:800 scale - but no ratlines on the plans (unless I really want to go crazy!)

Thats a great bottle to start out with.   The opening is nice and wide.  I did a kit similar to this only it was simply a pirate ship.  It was a lot of fun to bbuild and i learned a lot.  I look forward to seeing how this one goes.

Thanks, y'all. Ask Sjors for popcorn! I may be able to get a little bit done before we move, but not much. Will be packing the shipyard when I get home next weekend I hope to get a couple of hours of building in before I pack it up.

Hi Wayne. I wish you a nice trip with this project...

My two cents. I had never built a ship in bottle kit, so I have no experience about the easiness of a supplied bottle. But having been dealing with ordinary bottles, I would firstly check the clearness and worry less about the diameter of its neck.

Looking at the photo, the bottle in front of the manual, I would like to know how much of the text I could read, on a part of it being placed inside the bottle...Then I could figure how much of my work, could be visible.

Certainly all the above make no sense, if you want to use the kit as it is, including the old bottle.

Thanks

I built a ship in the bottle kit years ago. I call it my shipwreck in a bottle. Thinking of trying it again. Looking forward to see how your goes!

Welcome aboard, Jesse - with any luck I will be getting off my duff over the next week or so and starting in on this teensie beastie!

looks like fun.......I'm in......I love older stuff!  ;)

I hope you are referring to the kit and not me, Popeye!!!

Appreciate any and all advice, Thanasis!  I actually located the box where this had been packed and will check out the clearness of the bottle this week - makes sense that that would be the key consideration!
