Am fairly experienced modeler, but never tried planking of model boat. Bought a Arkit Uncle Sam 1849 tug kit.  Co is now defunct.  Instructions re planking are minimal—- one sentence.  Imply process not as elaborate as shown in tutorials on subject shown here.
any suggestions about how to proceed?  Is there a builder’s log available?

Hi Maury,

To find a model, in this case a kit, go to the Kit Build Logs and enter the name.  If there is one, it should show up.

As for planking, go to the top of the page and you'll see "Modeling Techniques".  Hold your mouse over it and a menu will drop down.  There's a category for planking there.  In that category are planking tutorials.

I'd suggest opening a log of your own in the Kit area and as you progress had have questions, there's assorted topics in the "Shop Notes, Ship Modeling Tips, Techniques and Research" area on the main page.

I am currently building this kit and to be honest I have replaced most wood including the planking with what I have in stock. What was supplied was too think and brittle to work with even after rehydrating. Once I completely started to do things the way I wanted I am really enjoying the build. All the cast items are so brittle and broken I had to make my own paddle wheels and other parts and this has been a major part of the enjoyment for me as these are really rare to see these days. Currently building the side supports and landings as well as handrails that are all replaced from kit materials.
