HMS Victory by racedees - Revell - scale 1:225 - PLASTIC - first build - 1805 Trafalgar colours

Here some photo's of my progress thusfar. I started this kit due to the book Batavia by Peter Fitzsimons.

My wife had started it, but has stopped the project. She was not patient enough to continue. All the flash on this kit and the fit of the parts discouraged her.

So after reding the book I had the urge to build a sailing ship. The only choise I had was this one. So I disassembled all my wife had assembled and started the kit all over.

I have made some progress after the steps you see on the photo's, but haven't made pictures of it yet.

This is my first ship build, but I hope you all like it.

On this moment I'm in the middle of a move, so the coming weeks I will be working on that.  But I hope to continue this build very soon.

Very nice indeed and welcome to MSW! I have a recollection building this kit as a child (mid seventies?) but it did not come out as nicely as yours, Racedees. It is an old kit. According to Scalemates it dates back to 1960 but with latest boxing from 2017. That might explain the presence of flash. It is an old mould which has squeezed out a lot of Victories over the years. This is how I left her a few weeks ago.

Have to do loads of work on stern of the ship. I also have to repaint some parts of the shield (if that's the correct name). On the macroshot I see some unpainted areas.

Looking good, Racedees. You're making very good progress.

 

Yes, it's the ship's figurehead, but in the case of the Victory the figurehead is a shield with cherubs as supporters. It's the coat of arms of the House of Hanover, the family of George III, who was king of England at the time of the battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

Made some progress.... The masts are a dryfit by the way.

Finaly some progress made.

The anchors are placed, the rudders on the sloops are placed.

Also the davits are removed, because they were added to the ship somewhere around 1822. 

 

My first ever attempt to do some rigging, so please go easy on me...

 

 

I try to make it as realistic as I,m able to on this scale.

Had little to do yesterday, so picked up with this build. Placed all of the shrouds. Painted the bottom ones. After that i placed the upper masts with the shrouds. Next step will be the ratlines.

Some little progress I made on the ratlines.

Still need to cut the ropes off the upper ratlines. 4 down, 8 to go.....

Really nice work so far. I built this model a few years ago, but didn't DARE try doing the ratline rigging by hand.  I went with the supplied plastic.  I like the authenticity of yours!  I was highly impressed with the detail this plastic model has, particularly the deck.
