Now, if only Sergal would make a 'decent' Thermopylae at the same scale.

Hear, hear! I lament the non-existence of a good Thermopylae kit (wood or plastic. Sergal or any other reputable kit maker).

I would be wary of interchangeable components, Revell did that and it didn't turn out well at all. Some little things, sure, but they are very different vessels.

LeoM, your hull is coming along very nicely.

Oeps, I notice that it is more than 6 months ago since I last posted some progress on my Cutty Sark. Not that I have been working constantly on her, but the brass bulwark caused more scratching behind the ear than I expected. To tell the truth there were more than 526 planks to be laid on the 2nd layer. But having polished the hull the best I could, it is a joy to feel the lines of the hull 😄

And now I will have to start on the 2500+ copper plates 🤔

I also agree, your hull looks really good, the brass bulwark is a nice touch.

I don't lament the Kit version of Thermopylae as I wouldn't be able to afford it. But a decent set of plans in 1:95 would be be very welcome instead of a bodged conversion of CS plans. It would save me a lot of hard work in FreeCAD or 360.

Thanks for asking: the upper part of the inner bulwarks will indeed be planked

  • 1 month later...

I am coppering plate by plate (15 x 5 mm) and overlapping each of them. A slow process, but I am happy with the result.
