I'll try with the USS William H. Brown. Built in 1860 at Monongahela, Pennsylvania. Acquired by the War Department in June 1861 and transferred to the Navy in September 1862.

Grrrr. now I have to go through all the HMS screw sloops or perhaps also the corvettes.

I'm sure it is one of those late 1880/90's three masted, fully rigged and an

(from this perspective invisible) funnel.

Next guess:

HMS Bacchante (1876)

iron screw corvette

black hull

straight bow

white upper line along the deck

three masted, fully rigged

Jan, She was a built a bit later than HMS Bacchante. She did start off as a Screw Corvette but later got redesignated as a third class Cruiser. Her Hull still exists.

Took a danged lot of searching to find this one!

 

The Warspite, Anguilla's most famous ship. 75 feet long, built in 1902.
