Strainer for Acrylic Paint?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried to strain acrylic paint or primer for airbrushing? I have a couple of bottles (one was unopened) of Stylenrez primer that have some clumps and clogged my airbrush. Most of the stuff is fine and should be usable. The only commercially available strainer for airbrushes I found at Micro Mark- did not see any at USA Airbrush Supply. . .

Thanks

Bob

Pantyhose/stocking/tulle/nylon make great camera filters.  (I know...slightly OT...but they work well as a diffuser filter.)

I would suggest you first try a good strirring to see if you can break up the clumps. The commercial electric model paint strirrers reportedly work very well.  https://www.micromark.com/Cordless-Mixer-for-Model-Paints  I simply use a bent piece of wire chucked into a Dremel for the same effect. Others swear by simply placing a few "BB" shot (ammo for BB guns) in the bottle, capping the bottle, and shaking well. Breaking up the clumps in that way usually works fine. If all else fails, straining is the final solution, but it's a particularly messy one.

Thanks for the link. I saw this on Amazon, but think it is meant for siphon-type airbrushes, not for gravity-fed models. . .

I will try the BB's or wire in Dremel tool before attempting straining as has been suggested. Thanks to all.

Yes it is for siphon tube airbrushes.
