I inherited an old model of Columbus' Santa Maria. It sat on the mantel of my parents home for as long as I can remember in my childhood, and I'm 70 now. For some reason, I've always been fascinated by it.

It has disintegrated a bit over the years.

I have a quote from a restorer in southern California to refurbish, but I'm curious as to the value of the model when restored. I have reached out to the restorer.

Any thoughts from the forum?

Since we don't really have a dedicated discussion area for topics like this one, I have moved it to the member introductions area.

What kind of estimate are you getting for the refurbishing?

If you found a model like this in restored condition, in an antique store, I would be surprised if they would be asking more the $200.

The value of something like this, is more as a family keepsake than a fine piece of art.
