I have a rather large library of books,  So when I go to a conference or book store I might get a duplicate.  As most of you know books pertaining to our hobby can get a little expensive.  Several years ago a friend told me about the website above.  I checked it out and signed up.  They have several types of collecting software but the one of interest is Book Collector,  I found it easy to use. on a pc or mac.  just punch in the ISBN and you will get all the info you need on the book.  It will then be stored and cataloged.  You can sort it or print it out.  It finally came out for Android and I now have it on my phone.  Instead of punching in the number I use the camera and scan it.  This software I think is a useful tool for those who want to keep track of their collection and avoid buying a duplicate.

Richard:

I posted the link to Book Collector below.  I have used it for several years - only on the home computer (I use my phone as a phone) and highly recommend it.  Try the free trial version it handles up to 100 books for free - I think for an unlimited time.  When you decide to buy it to handle your entire library (who has less than 100 books?!) there is no problem with updating - it is all seamless.

A feature I really like is the ability to show the cover of the book in your listings.  When you enter the ISBN number for the book the download if the book information is automatic and then you can add all your personal info about it - autographed, where you purchased it, the amount you paid and the software adds currenet value, the photo of the cover and the publisher and author info.  If the cover isn't available you can scan it and enter it and if you click a single box the cover scan will be uploaded to the cloud and the next person entering that book into their data gets your photo downloaded.

Many years ago I tried Collectorz to help archive my massive CD collection. It didn't work so well.

To find your CD, you could either insert it into your CD-ROM drive (and the PC would search the database), or you could scan the barcode, or you could do a search for the CD title. The software would then create an entry for you.

I was not pleased when it split the composer J. S. Bach into ten different composers and simply archived the discs everywhere under names like BACH JS, BACH Johann S, JS Bach, J. S. Bach, Johann Seb. Bach, Johann Sebastian Bach, etc.

I would have to manually edit each title to get the thing to archive properly. I ended up having to edit EVERY entry. When you have a CD collection that is somewhere close to 2000 discs, this gets very tiresome very quickly. I gave up after I got through 200 discs.

Does the Android app have the ability to use your phone camera to scan the barcode?

They have upgraded their software considerably. I am able to scan them in with my phone. The reason for using both phone and laptop is that there are a couple of used book stores that I used to frequent and I would drop by and take a look at what they had. This way no fuss. At 150 books my library is getting extensive and expensive.
