    Hi Daryl,

I for one would be grateful for any report on problems, challenges and hiccups (as well as good news too). Not only is it interesting of course but also so helpful for us learners as a tool on things to watch out for in your kit and others. But also to know we are not alone when we discover theses things for ourself.

And happy birthday to your nephew too

Ok, I could not work last week. Today Hothead was finally packed in temporary accommodation in Novi Sad, and a new life for Him started. After we return home, Princess was not here (some of her Hip-Hop seminars and battle, whatever it is) ... House is empty ... and we have to adapt to this new situation ... even with two skype contacts this afternoon ...  Lunch, napping, drink a coffee with Admiral, and finally went down to shipyard and Her ... She welcomed me pretty grim, but She was silent

I decide to start with windows on bow space,

Transferred position from C-plans, drill little holes, wide them to scale, and then question arise - them look like little flattened rings, and have to be a little "older" than a hull surface - and - how to hell to make them ?

Think Nenad, think ... after a while and some time spent sniffing between materials in garage, I found little rounded wooden strip 4mm in diameter

I drilled central longitudinal hole, and thinned it by hand  to about 3 mm diameter

Then carefully cut rings 1-1,5 mm wide, and glued them to position

After glue hardened, with Einhell I shaped holes ... I must admit that putting some "glass" into openings on such a scale is a too big bite for me

After sanding and finish with 400 sandpaper, first layer of black acrylic

    and ta-da-da ...

Nenad, you are rushing again !!!

To see what I have done and to compare with photos, I opened one of Matt`s photos I uploaded to G-drive

    Position - OK

Dimension - relatively - Ok. Can be a little smaller, but, this is also over my possibilities ( or I am lazy to try)

    Color - failure

And I give it first color repair

Ok, need a bit more of yellow ( gold?) to add

But, I become little nervous, and decided that this is all for today

    Greetings!!
I hadn't realised it was over a month since I reported in but here I am.

Firstly I must include my sincere thanks to Dan Vadas and Capt.Al without whom reaching the stage I am at would have been quite impossible and so I really want to express my gratitude to them both.

Well folks, after much thought and heavy persuasion from members of the family who told me my boat would not be complete without them, I decided to go for broke and put sails on the beast !!!

I failed to follow advice from those on MSW and put the yards on first because I decided to follow the order of my woefully inadequate parts list. There was after all a great deal of rigging to do once they were on and before sails were added. Someone had said attach the sails to the yards first but in all honesty I was glad I didn't as I could never have attached the yards properly with sails attached.
However I must be equally honest and say that attaching sails afterwards has been very fiddly but then this whole rigging lark is.

It is quite amusing in a way - the instruction booklet I have has some photos in it but there are at least two if not three different rigging setups. The parts list is different again, it is completely different from the AL version and the McKay book! Suffice to say that thus far I have had to use average opinion and an amount of what I like to call 'maritime licence' !!!

I know there are one or two bits that are totally wrong and the same that could be right. Apparently when Capt. Bligh took on the ship he re rigged it anyway to suit himself so I am quite sure there must be several acceptable ways.

Anyway, I now have all the 'forward' facing sails on and rigged. I still have what I call the 'sideways' sails to do, the lifeboat to fix on, the open side to 'accessorise' and some general tidying up to do before I can call it finished. I'll let you see it when it's done.

    Just magnificent Denis!

In fact "magnificent" doesn't seem a good enough word for the pictures of your completed Sovereign of the Seas, but it will have to do as I clicked "like" about a thousand times and that didn't show how impressed I am at your workmanship.

Congrats again my friend, you truly deserve every word said above.

    Hi Keith

    Yes I did notice them.

I was only dry fitting them as I could not help my self to start her ha ha.

I am now in the dog house , the wife said I could not start till the room is painted .

Never mind the kennel is nice and warm.

Jesse, good luck while waiting. Sails are in my way too, and I´m still thinking what to do about them before needlework. Computers are bad entities, sometimes they just want to mess with us.   Really great work so far.

Hi Mobbsie,  Thanks for stopping by.  I am really looking forward to the next adventure.  Thanks to you and Grant for letting me play.

Thanks also to the "likes" they are always appreciated.

Time for a small update.  I have been working on the fiddly bits. The kit supplied parts are plywood or plastic so they needed to be cloned into a more natural material.  The cleats, blocks, spar and oar holders were all scratched from oak.

The plywood cradle was remade out of Mahogany.

The rudder is mounted loosely until I blacken the brass pin head, The cleats and oar holders are mounted.

I milled slots into bits of left over oar handle to act as keepers for the rudder suspension leather piece.  I have not completely figured out how to terminate them.  You can see them closer up in the second picture.

The paint tests are finally over.  I had some trouble finding the correct paint that would not creep under the masking tape.  My oldest daughter paints a lot of fabric and both she and the Admiral recommended a brand named Tulip.  It is the stripe on the left and the obvious choice.

The sail painting and rigging are next but I am heading to St Louis for the NRG meeting so they must wait.

    Thanks for looking.

    Hi

Well I have dived into the RW box.

I have dry fitted the frames, some are a bit loose and will need packing out ( about 0.50 x 5mm ).

    Hi all

Ok yes I know it has been a long time ha ha.

Now that the SoS is all finished it is time to turn my attention to the "Royal William".

As I had a bit of time on my hands last night I thought I would sort all the deadeyes and blocks out as in the kit they all come in one bag.

I was a little surprised that some of them need to be replaced but hey that is nothing new with kits as you all know.

So it is chin up and just carry on with the build.

    Hi All

Ok this is a sad day for me as my girlfriend of 2 years + has just left me for a mahogany cabinet.
I don't know what I did to upset her, may be I pulled her ropes too tight or sanded her bottom to hard.

But the day did get better a new girl is in town.

    ALL FINISHED.

    Denis.

So, I took some pictures from my latest efforts. Masts are rigged and waiting for sails. Main mast is a little bit too tensioned, as you can see. I don´t know if with sail on it will bring it to it´s rightful position or if I should release some tension before installing the sail - my fear is to let it go and have loose ropes on my model. Would be great to have some opinions in that.

There are some few additions beyond sails, as the eyes on front rails and the painting on stern (I´ll make it as the kit´s decal don´t fit in my ship).

    I'm not ...

As a result of the flood, the market does not have the dried coal for citizen (I use it for heating in the winter - natural gas is expensive - doubled price than coal). Three weeks ago I spoke to the supplier and found a nice perspective - no dried coal ... Two days ago he suddenly called me and said that he has for me two tone, now, or who knows when ... Of course, I told him - drove immediately .. .

So, yesterday all day I loaded those two tone from the street in front of house where they were dumped to the basement. I ended up with a big muscle inflammation, and there was no way to get down to the workshop ... even to watch TV ... which does not mean that I did not follow what was going on MSW ... Kids and Admiral were watching something on TV, I was there napping, talking, lurking from Cell on MSW, FB, Google, Wiki and other places, hardly waiting time to befall the bed ...

Oh yes, there was a brandy in glass ... and Princess pancakes ... and good time with family ...

Today is plan to try to finish rudder circle and little "hinge" above, and to continue with make up

    Hi Denis,

Thank you for the kind words, and if I really was any help then I am truly honoured to have been even a small part in you finishing this incredible model.

It truly is a masterpiece and you should be so very proud of yourself, and take your place amongst the best here on MSW. I honestly can't wait to see what you do with your royal William and new toys.

I do agree with Brian about the worthiness of your ship

And just when I thought it couldn't be any better, I have to say your plaque is the ideal finishing touch. Your idea to use the brass strips to match it with your ship and give it your own personal touch is perfect. You have taken your friend's idea and made it even better, and your own. I am sure she would be just as proud if you!!
