Welcome to the Scotland build. We have a few of us doing the same  build on this site. I, myself, am new to model ship building and this is my first build.
So far it has be enjoyable.
Feel free to ask as many questions you like. I found that the more questions and pictures taken , has helped me the most.

Well, I definitely have to follow this build.
Have not started my Woody Joe kit,  the Hacchoro,  yet but this will give me incentive.
As always, your attention to detail in both model building and writing a build log is highly commendable

This may be a very stupid question .
I have been searching the Ship Kit Database  and every ship shows that the page is under construction
Are there ANY ships that have any real information in it???

    What am I doing wrong??

You will also have to clip the walnut strips flush to the deck edge, of course. I used a Dremel and sanded it down . Was a lot easier
You are doing great, just keep it up

I would read ahead as you will have to curve the bulkheads towards the bow. I used the shape of the deck as a general guide to get the curve correct. This allowed me to get the bulkhead flush with  the deck
It seemed to work for me.

yes, that is what happened to me.
You have to sand or file it down so it is flush with the deck

    Hi Duarte,
I am presently building the Scotland and can offer help. Although this is also my first build, I have learned  a lot along the way.
The wood strip is one of the square walnut strips. It fits the depth of the false keel .
The bulwarks need to be flush with the top of the false keel. I had to file down the slots deeper to make them fit. If they are too tight to fit you may have to file the sides of the slots. But be careful as they must not be loose. They should be snug.

Keep asking questions , post some pictures as you go along so we may see your work and maybe see things that you may miss. Also, check out all the build logs on this site as they will give you great suggestions  that you may run into.

Planking of the deck is finished, and I will start planking the hull soon.
I used 70mm planks for the deck. I chose the 2 level buttshift method, first because of suggestions in other build logs regarding probable shortage of planks for more than 2 level, second because it is the easiest and it is my first build, and third it looks good on the other ships.
I did not wet the planks in any stage, and I did not face any splintering problem. To shape the planks for the edges, I used a knife and cut them to an almost correct size, and after gluing all of them, I sand them to make the proper shape. I did the sanding slowly and carefully.
At the end, I still have 3 long piece of wood for planking, which will be used in the next stages. That means that there is no room for error, and almost none of the deck plank woods should be wasted.
To simulate the caulking, I used the suggested method by the manual which is using a pen on one side of the planks. After gluing and shaping all the planks, I scraped them using a blade, and then I used a very fine sanding paper (#1000) on the deck. Now the surface is very smooth when I touch it, and the planks separation is visible too. I didn’t face the problem of making the deck dirty by the graphite, probably because I used mainly scraping than sanding. The wood provided in the kit was not consistent in the width especially in the ends. that caused some gaps between the planks, which I filled with a mixture of white glue and saw dust. This turned out ok, but I will be more careful next time not to spread it on the wood itself since it is difficult to remove it. The model is not that big so I did not consider simulating the nails.

for the backside, I glued the wallnut strips to the part 17, and also to the backside instead of lower side of lower deck, as illustrated in the manual.

I attached two photos showing the deck and backside of the ship.

Here. Is the finished second planking. I have used no filler. There are small areas that may need filler. What are everyone's thoughts?

    Hi Casey,
I had the same problem with my iPad . What I had to do was edit each picture , rotate them 4 times or 360 degrees , and then post them. This allowed them to be in the proper position.
Have no idea why it worked but it did

Finally I managed to start a building log. I have unfortunately already more than 2 years behind me, so it is too late for the early stages. I have not figured out how to make good pictures yet, so these pictures are kind of a test....

    Hi all,
I have been able to do the bulwarks. I hope I got it right

Now onto the planking. I honestly am intimidated by doing planking for the first time. Any help would be appreciated
Casey, you said you taped the strips. How did you do that exactly?

    Hi everyone,
    I am back !!
Had spinal fusion surgery and have been recovering. No time for my model. However, doing well now and it's time to restart this project.
I am just starting the planking.
    Questions:
What is the best way to hold piece #27 in place while I glue it. Anyone have an idea or picture
What is a good article review to help me with hull planking for the first time before I begin??

Good to be back but I could use some help

Just a thought, keep it coming with the pictures. Sometimes it is easier to spot a mistake before it happens and we only want to help.
