  1. Lovely work and dito pictures! Some with the light from above make me feel like being on a frigate in the West-Indies in the 18th century... Frank.
  2. Congratulations on finishing your planking job! Very nicely done, you've done a great job! Frank.
  3. Looking very good woodartist! Nice and steady progress also. Thanks for your update. Frank,
  4. Beautiful work Ronald! Your pear planking is not only near perfect, but also very warm and beautiful to the eye! I'm curious if you're going to paint the freezes or use the etched metal? I'm thinking of painting my freezes on Winchelsea too, but haven't got the nerves to do so till now... Ofcourse I could use the printed papers as a template and glue them on later when they're allright, but then I'll have two layers of paper, or I will have to remove the existing freezes. You could paint the freeze white over blue, spray or paint the bleu again using the etched metal as a template and then fill in the left behind white 'negative' forms with darkened (with brown?) yellow ochre, yellow ochre and lightened yellow ochre (with white?)? Frank.
  5. Thank you all for the kind words, these are really appreciated and inspiring! I’ve been busy making my stand fit to the hull and put some WOP on it. The lowest edge had some ugly spots so I decided to paint it very dark brown, almost black to cover that up. With a last layer of WOP this will look very natural I hope. Also I finally put the glass behind the windows on the sides of the quarter galleries. The rudder section is not yet finished as you can see ofcourse. Frank.
  6. Finally some quality time for the rudder. I started little too conservative with the rudder hole… Tomorrow the hinges to the ship. Frank.
  7. Can it still be bought without the complete wood package, as earlier provided as by hobbymil.eu also? That would make a big difference in custom duties. I see they offer it still on their website: https://www.hobbymill.eu/products/wood-packages/cutter-cheerful-1806 Thanks, Frank.
  8. Hi Chuck, I read on the Syren website, Cheerful is no longer in production. Chris Watton of Vanguard Models will do the production, soon? But do we still have to order the Cheerful mini kits from you in the USA and the main part of the kit from the Chris in the UK? Would that mean paying shipping costs and tariffs twice for us overhere? Frank.
  9. Yaw dropping and simply very, very beautiful project... I'm in for building one after Winnie as well... Frank.
  10. Very good fix at the stern, but maybe is your frieze print not to small now? Luckily you can enlarge it a little on your computer later. A lot of work taping the run of the planking, but it pays of a lot, so that's time very well spent. Take your time, enjoy it and flip it over to check it with your carpenter's eye (left or right 😉) the run of your tape lines! You're definitely on the right track to build an awesome Winnie! Frank.
  11. Hi Greg, Looking sharp and beautiful! I just added small drops of white and yellow to the blue paint until the blue/green teint matched my prints of the friezes and the side quarter galleries. The teint of the color on the prints on the sides of the quarter galleries have a little more green in it than those on the back, at least in my case, that is, on my paper with my printer ink... Depending on the yellowness of your papertype, ink, etcetera, it will be 1 on 1000 gamble if you find a paint that matches exactly straight form the bottle. Good to see you're concerned about matching colors and teints too, as they make or break the look of a model I think. Frank.
  12. *************** Chapter 5 *************** First step is glueing the rudder together… Little parts are only test fitted, not glued on yet ofcourse. Frank.
  13. And finally the deck planking has finished this weekend. Now first some heavier and lighter sanding and some WOP on the deck… And then up to chapter 5!!! Frank.
  14. Hi Fred, Any updates on rigging your Winnie? I wonder (haven't read back for a while, sorry), which rope and blocks, brands, sizes) you use for rigging your lovely cannons? Thanks, Frank,
  15. And replanked and first light sanding again… Let’s see if I can finish this before this Sunday evening, or else end of next week! Frank.
  16. Little setback, two planks weren’t satisfactory and had to be removed and replaced…. Almost made it planking the deck this holidays… Frank.
  17. Looking awesome and great progress! Do you really work with only one hand? Even more respect for your progress and beautiful build! Frank.
  18. Hi all, Planking on, only twelve rows deck planking to go…still 5 days holiday left, so little more than two rows a day would finish the deck these holidays. I see now my little plank with bricks, the stove platform has curled a little, probably due to the moist black paint I put on. I have to see if my stove will be straight up later on…Otherwise I’ll replace it with fun to make dark redbrown clay bricks and a new black frame. Frank.
  19. Looking good and very good progress Steve, harsh and long work sanding inboard…but very important for later to get it right like you did. Very well done! Frank.
  20. Welcome to the group Allen, I'll be following your build. Have fun and lots of succes on your first scratch build of HMS Winchelsea! Frank.
