I hear ya Bob. But I can usually find a machine or at least a tool for sanding.

Well its getting cold outside and flying a drone in that weather is proving too chilly so the ship gets some attension.....I am still adding the deck detailing prior to the fitting the spars and tackling the rigging.....
Please note if your behind my stage and are building this same kit because the instructions don't bother to do this, when making the stair runners ( see picture ) make them narrower( arrowed thinner one ) than they were for the stairs dropping to the lower decks, These stairs are a lot thinner in total diameter and will be out of scale using the runners at the same thickness as the other stairs and at the kits standard supplied thickness.....Oh and also the stairs in the kit are in the incorrect position. ( Whoops Constructo, not again )
NB, I have not fitted my stairs yet but just positioned for a photo to help explain the below....
The stairs dropping from the upper deck to the middle deck are not in the correct position on the plans, The stairs towards the bow are ok but the sets to the aft of the ship have been put in the same opposite position as the bow but they should be between the fifth and sixth beam, Taking beam one being from the bow end.... see pictures and all will be clear.

cobra1951 reacted to Robin Lous in Greek Bireme by Robin Lous - FINISHED - Dusek - Scale 1:72 - First wooden ship build
Thanks gentlemen, you're all too kind.
Sunday I took a day off from the shipyard. Was too tired after some crazy busy days...and had to watch the last Formula 1 Grand Prix race of the season (with "our" hero Max Verstappen).
Yesterday I started with the rigging. Sail first....and I'm amazed about the amount of "stuff" that has to go on it.
Started with the "curtain loops" 8 rows of 5 loops needed, so that's 40.
7 rows...35...done. Very time consuming, because I didn't do just a loop through the sail.
3 stitches one side...loop...3 stitches other side. When I finished this, the rest will be fairly easy.
I first planned to use the sewing thread for the (10) lines that go from from the bottom of the sail...over the yard to the pin rail on the rear deck (is there a proper nautical word for them?), but I use the 0,5 mm Corel instead.
Perhaps the sewing thread is more true to scale, but it will be hardly vissible and I'm afraid it won't look good.
More soon!
Robin

Moving and setting up is going well. The new shipyard is almost ready for work to resume with La Couronne in her place and the area for Soleil Royal ready to go. Still have a lot of work to do throughout the rest of the house and the wood shop is no where near ready but we are happily in the new house and hopefully in the next few days work can resume.

I'm starting to see a trend here. Start to work on rigging, instead dress out a new workbench. Start to work on rigging, instead fix a broken anchor
Start to work on rigging, instead build another ships boat
Well the cutter is coming along. I am using styrene again for the frame pieces. I did the same on the yawl when I built that. It looks a bit odd by itself but after its painted and partially hidden by floorboards and seat benches I think its acceptable.
Never realized they were so big

Darrell - come on down. Yup it's all HobbyZone.
Joel - you could do something like that. The modules have small but super strong magnets in the top, bottom & sides. So rearranging for tasks would be possible. Move what you want and they snap into place. I'm not that sophisticated yet. Right now it's more like files in one drawer, tweezers in another, measuring stuff in another, etc.

I like the label idea Joel. I just didn't want to write on the drawers. They're faced with vinyl so even something like a mailing label would do. Maybe your color coding as well.
At the moment I am trying to identify the stuff I use everyday vs once a week or once a month. That's what I want to get within reach. Sadly I'm already seeing that I probably will not be able to completely eliminate the big tackle boxes that I used before.

and finally, for now, the very first of the yards. As shown in previous pictures, I've built all of the yards and booms, chains, and studs. They'll be slung and rigged as specified in the less-than-complete instructions...
