GLakie reacted to Piet in Surabaya by Piet - 1/80 - Mid 17th-Century VOC ship
Thank you, thank you, thank you - - for all the praises heaped onto me. I'm truly humbled but very much appreciated. Also my thanks to all who clicked the like button.
Yeah, that different color green makes it look more authentic and we are quite happy with it.
Hi Lawrence and welcome back to the shipyard. Don't be a stranger now and drop in anytime. Gwen and I wish you and your family also a very Merry Christmas and a healthy prosperous 2016.
Actually let me extend our best wishes to all.
Hey Sjors, good seeing you here too. Drop in any time and chat. Terima kasih banyak No Dutch, no English, no Dutchlish either Ah, who would have guessed - - this is Surabaya dialect of course for - thank you very much. Sorry, I couldn't resist this one, well, after all, we are on the ship Surabaya pffffffffff
Thanks for the pic of the galley chimney Tadeusz. Looks rather nice but mine is not as ornate though, just a plane jane. See pic below.
The build dock has been turned around so I can paint the port side and do some added detail work on the starboard bulwark like making a rack for the capstan poles and reworking the other door to the helm's man area. I had to use some heavy persuading to get that door off and now need to remake the bottom hinge and then cement the hinges back to the door.
I gave up trying to make the cap on the hood from wood. After three tries with the wood splitting and cracking I used good old cardboard. Done in a jiffy. I also installed the door to the helm's-man location but had to re-solder the bottom hinge. I also painted the inside of the door and the large window for the helm's man.
Cheers,

Matt, thanks for sharing - exactly my question. I still have a ways to go before getting to the sails but thinking about it and doing some reading nonetheless.
Trimmed up the ratlines on second set of shrouds. Half way there....

I just think it's a pretty amazing bit of kit. I watched the video with my mouth hanging open. There's a lot of 3 axis CNC mills but this just boggled me. But, I'll never want to machine a small scale V- 8...

If I was much sharper as a machinist (not even close), I might want one. What are the damages for that jewel?

I saw this on another site and all I can say is "Wow".... Even though I'm confirmed toolaholic, I don't think I'll be ordering one under the threat of being put before the mast, flogged around the fleet, keelhauled and then hung from the highest yardarm.
For some reason I'm not able to embed the video.. maybe me, maybe my browser....

Real nice pic John. Really shows off that detail. Don't be too intimidated with the latest technology. It's still just a camera, and unless you're into professional photography, a lot of that new stuff, you won't have to mess with.

Something like this happened to me with the deadeyes in the mast tops of my Vasa. No one has noticed so far.

No update today but a reminder for myself.....
Read the drawings twice before you do something !!!!!!!!!
When I placed the deadeyes I did not take a good look at the drawing and find something out when I was finished......
I have taken some wrong size of deadeyes
I nees smaller ones then what i have used.
Not all of them but the smaller ones.
So I have change that and now I have to put back the chains......
First job for tomorrow.
Then I can go to the other side and do it straight away right !
So .....read twice and do it once !!!!!!!!!
I know I'm not the first who is doing this and I know for sure I'll be not the last !!!!!!!!
