GLakie got a reaction from maddog33 in Bounty Launch by Canute - Model Shipways - 1/16 - Small
She's coming along nicely Ken. And yes---Blow dryer is a good idea. That's why she's the Admiral and gets the big bucks.

GLakie got a reaction from Ron Burns in How would you improve your Byrnes tools?
A small improvement that I found useful for the saw, was simply a piece of plywood with a handle on each end of it for making it a little less awkward to move from one place to the other. The rubber feet on the saw itself won't let it slide, and the plywood can be easily clamped to almost any work-surface.

Not only that, but if this kit shows, out of Pluto's 248 year trip around the Sun, it crosses inside Neptune's orbital path for 20 years, like it did from '79 to '99, making it the eighth planet from the Sun instead of the ninth for 20 years.

Just got done going over this amazing build Mario. Nice touch with all the little tools and toolbox. Made my own eyes hurt just watching that. I can only imagine how yours felt. Really--REALLY nice job. Kudos to you man!

I would probably go with the one they show in the plans, if it is shown. If not, I think the U-shape would have been easier for their blacksmith at the time to make.

It's a shame you found all those flaws in the kit Ben, but maybe if you send pictures of them to the company that made it along with a note telling them you're a member here at MSW, they could be inclined to send some replacement parts, rather than deal with all the "bad press" they could get over it.
Cheers

I was watching a program on the History channel the other day called "Rogue Waves", and was kind of amazed to find out that according to recent satellite observations, that rogue waves happen quite frequently on Superior, and that's what they now thing broke her in half. Same goes for Lake Huron which has hundreds of wrecks at the bottom.

I was living up in Marquette when the "Fitz" went down, and I can tell you the whole UP area was in a grieving state for months after that. Superior's a cold and merciless lake all year 'round. +45 degrees is all it gets, even during the hottest part of the summer.

Very nice Marc! It's always good to have the right tool for the right job, at hand when you need it.

That's a bummer you have to re-do them, but at least you caught it when you did, before they were glued to the deck and the rigging was started.

Yup --- I can definitely see a real "need" for an X-Y table. So ah--Christmas in July?

GLakie got a reaction from popeye the sailor in Norske Love by Dan Vadas - Billing Boats - RESTORATION
Wow Danny! Definitely not a job for the "faint of heart", but I know you'll work miracles with her. "Miracle Worker" -- Perhaps a new overhead handle above your avatar?

GLakie got a reaction from popeye the sailor in Norske Love by Dan Vadas - Billing Boats - RESTORATION
Thanks Danny! By the way, I think it's a good thing you're doing for the family's keepsake purposes, and by no means would I consider this a lost cause or "folk art" as has been previously suggested.
Cheers

Looks huge Danny. That fore-mast has to be about 5 ft. What is the width, height, and length of this one?

I think turning them out of wood is probably the better of choices. At least when compared to building them up that much! The real trick is getting them all consistent, but it's doable.
