    Thanks Rich!

Plugging away here, not much to show. I ordered some stuff from Chuck, rope and such, something strange happened while I was ordering, think I may need medical attention. I had looked at Chucks serving machine and said "NO! I am not serving my first rigging attempt" "Carry on, nothing to see here." I placed my block order and suddenly I felt lightheaded and everything went dark with white flashes. There was a roaring in my ears and a taste of copper in my mouth, I was paralyzed and couldnt move. A sense of impending doom had overcome me. After a moment it passed but I was left with a feeling tat something wasnt quite right and I could hear a distant cackling of the Gremlin in the back of my head. With my order placed I brushed it off and carried on.

The feeling of disquiet stayed with me for the next several days until my order arrived from Chuck, a BOX when I was expecting a manila envelope.....hhmmmm. Lets open it and see whats inside.  WHAT?!?!? A serving machine? Stupid Gremlin seduced the Tool Addict again. Sigh, I guess I will just have to serve me some ropes then....

We are back on Full Speed Ahead at work and I feel a shift to Ludicrous Speed soon so posts will continue to be sporadic and small. If we can avoid Going Plaid I think I will survive to finish this build.

I made this for the Captins quarters, I know a good about will not be seen but well, trying to make this my own.

To have or to leave it? is the question!

The Rest of the parts on the quarterdeck is coming along. cant really attach them to the ship atm due to space for xmas.

    Cheers for now

just a small update, Not much to show for a few weeks worth of work but, I like how this came out. The hand rails in the picture was the fourth attempt, did not like how they was coming out.

I did start building the remaining Cannons today, as all was out for the day at home. (chores done first)..

    Cheers

Thanks for the comments and likes - good to know people have not given up on me yet!!

Brian, I have turned several barrel shaped posts to support her out of the same wood. they are slightly different heights; they vary by about 6mm/1/4 inch. My plan is to set the stern just slightly lower then the bow to give an impression of motion. I had considered giving her a slight lean also since I plan on rigging her in a tack but I am not sure I can support her properly at this point. I should have inserted some threaded inserts before I started the planking. Next build....

Carl, when to stop and haw to complete something has been a challenge all my life.

Mark, even small steps are good.

Now its back to work and full speed ahead. we have two more weeks of long hours and then a break, although we were contacted Friday by a potentially new client to do some work for an attraction opening this May. That has the potential of turning into another race to the finish.

    Hi chris,

Thank you for your comment.  I went through your build, it is fabulous.

Finally I started the hull planking.

I made six bands on each side.  I did not like the way they met at the bow,  so I decided to do some edge bending.  I know the proper way is by spiling, but the lime strips provided with the kit are easily bent after soaking them, even edgewise.  I pre shape them, let them dry, then glue them. After they are dry they keep their shape, they do not spring back, so did not need any forcing to fit them thus avoiding any clinker effect.

I measured the distance between each band on each bulkhead and transferred them onto a chart from which I worked out the width for each plank at every bulkhead.

I marked all the plank widths on the bulkheads so I have a good idea where I stand with every plank I fit.

This is going to take me some time as I have to let the planks dry before I fit them.

    Robert

Well now, When last we spoke Sjors was confused/not understanding, J was describing going through mine and Better Halfs life's collections as lovely and I was having to arrange for the repair of a grenaded garage door. Since then the holidays have past we took a trip to "Lost Wages" where had a great steak at Binnions, and work has gone from zero to 100MPH again. Needless to say, very little progress has been made in the shipyard.

Sometime back I picked up a piece of lumber for a base, I really liked the grain, it reminds me of flowing water. Yesterday I made up an alcohol dye of vintage maple and wiped it on I will get some clear on it this week i hope. I am contemplating on doing a French Polish on it but only going to satin rather than a high gloss. I am mildly concerned that the finish is too light though, it may compete with the ship itself. I may go with a dark garnet shellac to darken it a bit more, we shall see.

I have more or less finished the bowsprit and jib boom. I am not sure haw HOW far I will detail this, its very easy for me to get carried away looking at other builds here. So much of this build has been simplified that I need to reign myself in.

That's all for now, hopefully more soon.

Thanks for that Sam, I found a few videos. (Video On Stopping Blocks)

Before I found the Video, I used 0.25mm copper wire and made hooks etc. then with the use of silver solder and flux, soldered the ends, ill paint the seen soldered parts.

I am missing a picture, of the between these, Ill make and take a new picture and add later.

Just need to add the coil of rope at the end. not chose how that will look yet.
