  1. I agree with Chris here. I used to do commission builds from boats to tall wooden ship models. A commissioned build even from a Dumas kit could take a minimum of 3 months and anywhere from 300-400 hours to complete. My commission rate was around $5.00 and hour 10-15 years ago. The best way to go would be to join RCgroups.com and post that you are looking for a Victory Tug already built. I build and sell boats all the time, a lot cheaper than my commission rate, but it's usually a kit or a project that I get pretty cheap and something I really wanted to build.
  2. No, it's more like stupid people on ebay bidding up an item and not know what it is, but they just have to have it.
  3. The best way I have found to apply copper plating is to use copper foil tape that has a sticky back. Run it down the length of the hull, cut it, stick it and then come back with a sharp utility knife and score it how ever size plates you want. But first I start off with a smooth hull, no divits, then seal the wooden hull with a coat of poly to give the plates something to stick to.
  4. I agree Roger. I constantly dreaming of all those forgotten orphan kits and builds crying out to me for attention and a little love. But as I have come to realize, I can't save them all. I'm sure that I will be put to task again down the road, but as of now this is the last build on the bench and nothing in waiting.
  5. It will be unless I stumble upon a project that I just can't resist, which is always a possibility.
  6. I finished the Jenny Lee, it will be going to my youngest grandson.
  7. I'm still working on the Jenny, I got her all planked, putted, sanded, sealed the interior, working on the deck cabins now. Just waiting on a low humid day to glass the hull.
  8. When I mention orphaned kits or projects, folks think they were free.we But no orphan is totally free from expense. Take the Jenny Lee, I just spent $76.00 just on the running hardware package, which is why I believe there are so many of the older Dumas, Billings kits floating around. Most of their newer kits have the hardware package included.
  9. I plan on having my grandson participate in building the Jenny. He just turned six so I'm going to have him work on the deck cabin and see how it goes. I can always fix what doesn't work out. Spending the time will be priceless😄
  10. thanks guys, with my eye issues, it's taking me a bit longer to finish a project and I've had to turn down several orphan projects. But I'm still kicking it.
  11. I picked this orphaned kit up a couple of years ago intending to build it for my youngest grandson. So it has found its way to the building table. It's an r/c model. It will measure about 24 inches when finished. I will not be adding a stars and bars flag and will opt for an American flag.
  12. I usually like to do sail boats in full sail in all their glory, but with the cradle it sits in just didn't seem right to me.
  13. I used some anchor material that I have for another project as a sail cover while it's in dry dock. There will also be minimal rigging.
  14. I have the masts all set. I'm building it without sail as if it were in dry dock having repairs done to it.
  15. I'm still working on the Corsaro. Just trying not to over due it.
  16. That's a fact. You can run it in a lake or pond, but it better be quite calm and a good sized open space because it take a country mile to turn.
  17. I finished building the Trumpeter 1/200 scale USS Missouri a few months ago. It turned out beautifully. I intend to donate it when I'm finished looking at it.
