  1. Hello, now it is done, all port lids are at there place 😅, but not fast at all. The next thing to do are the channels. And here I have a question. In the 1719 establishment list is for the main channels a breath at the fore most end given and for the fore channels a breath at the after end. Fore the mizzen just a breath. But for all, so that the shrouds are clear of the gunnell (?) From the pictures I have that could be, but I'm not really sure, at least for the fore channels. For the main channels I would say the picture show it, but not very much. Here the channels getting narrower at the end, because the stays going up more vertical and therefor clearer from the ships side. Why the fore channels should be broader at the end is not very logical for me. Here the last stays have nearly no ship sides. They are behind the castel at the ships waist. But may be it's only kind of design?
  2. Hello, now the lids at the gun deck, at the star board side, are also ready 🙂 Now with more experience I also repaired some of the hooks for the rings at the inside of the lids at the port side. The rings have a inner diameter of 1 mm and the wire is 0,4 mm thick and you may have seen at my last post that some hooks are much larger then these.
  3. Hello, now the port lids at the port side have there rings. But the lids are nor fast installed, that will come after I have the channels ready.
  4. Hello and thank you for your nice comments and likes The first port lids are in place, but not fast now. It's quiet a different sight now. Tomorrow I will install the rings, and then the other side the same procedure.
  5. Hello, and thank you all for your comments and likes It took three weeks to dare to paint again, I do not like it very much 😟 But at least it is done. Marc, I hope you sleep better this time 😉 But now it's done and the next thing is to install the gun port lids.
  6. Hello and thank you for all the likes yesterday I painted the rest of the upper frieze. As you may see, I'm back in my shop down in the basement. It's to cold now in my winter garden to work there. And here a picture of the whole thing.
  7. Hello, there did't much happen last week. Last Monday I painted the first part of the upper frieze. But because the weather changed and it gets colder I went into the basement and forged the chain plates and today the rings for the gun ports. I changed the colour of the flags to ocker, because the red flags where'd really visible on the dark blue background. I let the cain plates etch, and because they should be in the middle 0,7mm and at the outside only 0,5mm I welded some tin on them. So that they bevels a little. And today I made the rings for the gun ports lids. ☹️ They have an outside diameter of 2,2 and 1,8mm.
  8. Hello and many thanks for your likes and comments, today I finished the drawing for the upper frieze. I do not know if I should do it this way. I painted all the flags and shields in there original colours. The rest I would paint like the lower frieze in that ocker tone. (?) At some ships you could see it done this way. That would ad a little more colour to the frieze.
  9. Hello and again, many thanks for your likes and nice comments, they are very appreciated Today I finished painting the lower counter. This is the look from below (in this case from above) and this from behind Next I would paint the frieze left and right from the quarter deck. I would like to paint there trophy bundles. The question here is, should I leave out the gun ports, or the windows? Because the windows are also decorated with wreaths, I tend to paint over the gun ports. But first I have to make some drawings.
  10. Hello and thank you all for your likes and comments, today I'm finished the frieze. That was a lot of work, more then expected, but now it's done The next thing to paint is now the lower counter. If you like colourful ships, I uploaded yesterday 3 albums of Russian ship models from the 18. century, they have here in the Eutin castle museum. https://www.schloss-eutin.de They where once a present of the Russian Tsar around 1806
  11. Hello, because the summer is gone here, since 4 weeks we have temperatures only around 20°C and every day rain 🙁, I decided that I should be better busy at the shipyard. So I started painting the starboard side. The first half is done 😓
  12. Hello Dowmer, here are all things ok. I'm vaccinated, and the flooding is more in the west and south of Germany. But that is really heavy there. We here in the north had till now a really normal summer. It was't so hot here and now and then a little, or a little heavier rain. But also here where regional some basements flooded, but no houses destroyed. And that should be more normal for the next years! ☹️
  13. Hello Keith, thank you for your request. But I don't know why your post is't visible here. Anyway, after painting half of the frieze I was so exhausted, I had to make a break before painting the other half. But then the summer started here and I decided to be lazy. Just a little work in the garden and relaxing.
  14. Thank you Mark, the frieze is 8 mm high, that means in real life 38,4 cm. So it's not so large, but very complex. If the real ships where all times so rich decorated I don't know. May be at there launch, but most of there life I think not. Also many models had there frieze painted only blue ore black. Here the weather is actual very could and rainy, so it's to cold to sit in the winter garden and paint. So I'm trying to draw the upper part of the frieze. But not the mermaids and there companions, but with trophy bundles. My painting skills are also limited.
  15. Hello, today I finished the fries at the port side. You may notice, that I also installed the port lids at the quarterdeck.
  16. Good morning Jorge, and thank you for the compliment. yes, the brand of the paint is Vallejo. No 70.949, 70.913, 70.983 and for the background 70.899. The brush I use is from Boesner, a German dealer for artists, 3/0 Synthetic Retuschierpinsel BSR03. That is there own brand. But I think you could do it with every brand as well.
  17. Hello and many thanks for all the likes and nice comments. They are very appreciated. Today only a small update, because my lawn waits for me 😐 , but much more bad is, the shipwright would't spend a grog today 🤨
  18. The shipwright spent a grog from his best rum! At least here is grog weather, the north cap must has come come some hundred kilo-meters nearer. 10 to 15°C (50-60°F) since Eastern! But I made the grog not so northern, otherwise is there no painting tomorrow 🤪
  19. Hello, after a long time of meditation about the next step, and there is nothing more to do in the garden, I had no more excuses to start painting the fries. I did't sleep well last night, and the first brush strokes where really horrible, but at least I think I got it. My nerves calm down 😊 I went with the ship in my winter-garden (?) and used my campaign chairs to hold my ship. That was a really good idea, because I could turn the ship in the direction I needed to work. The first picture show you this assembly. And here I'm painting. I used at least only three colors, and Prussia blue for corrections. and the first result. This is at least a 3 hours work.
  20. Hello, and many thanks for your likes and comments Keith, I did't mean faults as there is something wrong. But you see where planks not have the same thickness, because my Proxxon thought it must not be! I did't realised that during sanding and also not later, because you could't see it. But after I applied the paint these things are clear visible. But it is ok, I think that that happened also at the real ships.
  21. Hello, I'm not very busy these days, but I painted the hull with clear satin finish lacquer. The yellow is now a little deeper and brighter. The lacquer is't totally dry at the moment, and a little thicker as when fully dry, but you can see that I did't lost any detail. But now you see every fault in the planking, you have not seen before I painted the hull 🤔, but that is ok. And I'm doing my homework for painting the friezes. These friezes are 8 mm high, it is even with a pencil a challenge to draw. 😰
