The 8 ea., 3" secondary guns are now mounted in place. The decks above the 3" guns are mounted in place, and other fiddly bits have been added here and there.
Next, will tackle the rear bridge, then the structural framework to which the ship's boats are mounted. There are more 47mm guns to build, but am finished with the 3" guns.

Wow, I am beginning to wonder a little. Even though I am still pretty sure that the covers are coal shuttles I could not help but see that you have more of them further aft from where you are working now. In addition they all seem to be located quite close to each of the secondary gun mounts and have a skylight type structure just inboard. Are there additional gun mounts close to the shuttles further aft that are visible in picture #1?

It almost looks like these last four shuttles are located over the engine rooms rather than the boiler rooms as evidenced by the vents and central skylight just behind the funnels. It would not seem practical to have the bunkers extend that far aft. It would be a long haul to get the coal forward to the boiler fireboxes.

The thought passed my feeble mind making me wonder if they are instead ammo chutes used to pass ammo up the the smaller guns from below decks? When I built the USS Oahu, (China River gunboat sister to the Panay) she had similar openings next to her small guns located on the sides that were not only used to pass ammo but were big enough for a man to use to get rapidly to the gun from below decks.

Nice work on the funnel. Looks like everything is off to a great start.

From the pictures of the plans you provided it seems all of the "H" vents are located close to the main guns. Is it possible they may be vents for the magazines located below?

My only experience with this style of vent was on the Flower class Corvette which now that I look back, was also located just aft of the 4" gun mount.

those types of vents prevent downdrafts.  they can also be seen on modern fishing vessels too.

Good to have you aboard Sam. Hardly hiding, more off radar ...
Plastic builds ... yes, ah, well, uhm, I get the feeling it's brass with some plastic for the cohesion ... although I've found some nice 3D printed parts in favour even of the PE
I'm more for the slow cooked park on the bbq, so I skip both their's  If you grab a chair on my left side you can better follow what I do

So this where you are hiding, right in plain sight.
Youre really getting into the plastic builds it seems?
Nice start, will grab a chair (but not lou’s “Barbi”, will settle for O.C ‘s) and watch.

    Harley,
Good to have you aboard. You are more then welcome.

It could well be possible, but as a non-native English speaker I used the word which came up first as my brain can only hold so much information. Between Dutch, French, English, German, and a couple of programming languages, things tend to get scrambled up ... but thanks for the "correction", I'm not aversed to it, I just hope I will recall it next time I need it! If not, just hit me again, eventually I will have to remember as is the case with repetition.

    Cheers

Thanks for sharing your methodology with us. Interesting detail work on the bow. For my own education, aren't the items for the depth charges at the stern referred to as "racks" rather than "shutes"?
The RNC probably has some different terminology than USN.

    Cheers, Harley

Besides the galley stove there are eight both on the decks as well as on the rear and forward  superstructures, Lou. At least, that is what the drawings make believe ... I'll try to make a photo for your reference library

    Yipee! A drive in build!

At last someone with good taste! Hot dogs are not even good dog food and chilly dogs are just hot dogs covered up with spicy beans so you don't notice what you are eating.

    Carl
I always thought those "H" shaped pipes were something to do with the galley stove or something like a wardroom heater, as there always seems to be only one on British ships. Are there more than one on the H class?

As long as you do not bring Barbie, I'll mind when and where to throw Ken arround ...

Darn, build log Mod in town, "run for your life before he gets you a live" ... missed your distinguished presence Mark. Could you get them rough necks lined up a bit, then I can continue  I moved the PM outside the door, I hate that sweet sickening stench of popcorn, besides ... it takes space for seats

This morning I got "British Destroyers (1892-1953)" by E.J. March out to get into the drawings of the H-class. I'll be soldering vents the coming days, they look like the stack on the forrard funnel of Dennis' Vendetta, an H-shape on a tube ... so far I've located eight with different heights ...

Bringing your "Barbie" and having having plenty to go around in the same sentence can conger all kinds of lewd visions in the wrong people.
