I have had to gas two of my earlier models that were being attacked by termites so now i treat everything. In more temperate climates wood worm can also be as destructive. A few years ago i did a major renovation at home using plywood from Brazil. 10 years later it exploded with powder post beetles. We had to rip it all out. It could not be treated. -

I am sure what you are proposing will work fine. I have been using my Proxxon chop saw when i have lots of repeated cuts to do. With the Naparima i will have 44 post to cut and will use this saw to make the cuts. However it would not be useful for making cuts on large pieces of brass material. multiple saws are a wonderful luxury when you have multiple set up to make.

Gary i never ordered the motor as i got my old motor fixed, I have a Jim Byrnes and a Proxxon table saw, so i have a bit of over kill in the table saw area. I actually use the Dremel with a cutting wheel, to cut brass as although i have the blades to cut metal for many of my other saws it just so easy to use the Dremel. I also have a blade for the Proxxon band saw, but it takes 10 minutes to set it up and 30 seconds to use Dremel. I suppose if i had alot of cutting i would set up one of my other saws. i use the Jim Byrnes for my regular wood working task, the Preac as my fine delicate woodworking saw, Proxxon as my saw for heavy work. -

Thanks John. We have made lots of mistakes. Understanding this complex hull shape has really taxed John and i. When i got the finial plans from John last week they varied quite a bit from the NMM plans so we are adjusting the hull now and will proceed to build the first draft of this model.

Any feedback on what a Thornycroft boiler of 1904 would look look like would be greatly appreciated. This is what i have been able to take off the plans but there were no visuals of the front and back just a side and top view. The steam engines were illustrated in an article from the Engineer but the boiler has been a challenge.

Hi Tom i am so glad you found them useful as that was the sole purpose of doing them. When i started out modeling I found so little video content on YouTube that could guide and help me to acquire the skill necessary to build some of the more complex models. There was a lot of written stuff but much of it difficult to understand and follow. That was the motivation to do the videos. Today many years later there are now over 190 short videos that follow my building process on various ships. Your comment is greatly appreciated as recently i was unceremoniously thrown off a build that i followed, having been accused of “promoting my videos” , when all i did was respond to a new builder who had made an inquiry, and a request for help. I have long passed any desire to “promote myself” having discovered the wonderful craft of model building. I have found it challenging and stimulating having had a long successful career in business but still found the need to “stress” my brain to take me where i am uncomfortable and where most of the time I am ill equipped to handle the challenge. In Trinidad and Tobago where i live i have only recently found one modeler that i can discus my challengers with. So i am back to this forum as the only source of feedback. The two people who have been extremely helpful are Greg Herbert and David Antscherl whose support has been nothing short of fantastic. best regards kevin

Hi Bob i was just surprised at the errors as Thornycroft was a major boat builder and i did not expect to see the number of errors.anyway John is progressing nicely with the plans and i have finished the solid model including the twin tunnel hull. As you can see by the amount of filler it was a challenge to get it accurate. When i come to build the plank on frame finial model this is certainly going to be the greatest challenge. Kevin
