NMBROOK reacted to Mirabell61 in HMS Pegasus 1776 by Mirabell61 - FINISHED - scale 1:64 - 16-gun sloop
Build log part 39
chain plates (here in the Moment only those for 5mm deadeyes) on closed, planked starboard side
port side foremast chainplates, as far as the planking is in place the complete chain is fitted, in the area of the cutaway portions, I use one of the stringers together with length-dressed chain plates and leaving away the the lower cap plate. The boltings are placed at half width of the stringer
Mainmast chainplates, I trust it is a solution that does not look too much out of the way after all
thealignment angles can be set just like on the planked starboard side

Moving on to the chain-plate mounting....
although I tried to get the individual link lenghths in size to enable the lowest mounting Point above the wales, I could not get them all alingned in a straight horizontal row, but I`ll leave as is. therefore the deadeyes are all horizontal in a row which I felt is more important.
main mast arrangement
fore mast arrangement
the alignment angles I get with a string from the appropriate hight of a preliminary 8 mm diam. mast with an adjustable dummy top-platform in hight for main and foremast
Build log part 39 to follow...

prefitting Position check
the galley chimney shall be dressed to fit for final shape later on...
catheads (double sheaved) fitted on top of eking rail and cathead supporters, The mainrail shall be fitted later on
the catheads slip in with tight fit

Today the Access ladder to the forecastle deck is fitted for Position check
I know this may not be historicly wise correct, but I just could`nt mount those Little "pigeon-ladders" the way the plan shows. Leaving awy the forecastle bulkhead anyhow, the underneath area would be open, and the captain claimed a propper stair there after slipping off the foreseen ladder of the plan several times
The ladder now neatly fits in between the first and the second starboard gun, without hindering the tackles there

Hey all! Finally things are going less hectic and I had a little time to build. The masts except the bowsprit are positioned and I made the bowsprit mast.

After a little absence,I have something of an update.Aside from very little time,my broadband connection is giving me grief Either lightning fast or more commonly working at a snails past.I shall contact my provider and give them what for when in the right frame of mind.
Anyway, half the deck planked, given a scrape and light sand and then a couple of coats of poly to prevent glue marks whilst working on the other side.I have moved away from shellac as firstly,I like the variation of tones and secondly it means I can use my acrylic ageing techniques should I choose.I am ,due to the pleasing appearance, considering NOT treenailing and risk spoiling the effect.
The other side of the hull is now built and shaped so my next job is to sort the upper gunport frames on this side.
Kind Regards

I would go for it Eamonn and yes the name of said deckhouse escapes me aswell. That would certainly add to the build.A thin ply 'box' painted black inside that drops into the opening and holds the steps would create the desired effect.

Thanks for the nice encouraging comments and the likes folks !!
Ollie: my nails have been odd now for ages as a result of the sanding work on here.. don't look Grate at all (see wot I did there as well ??? )
Jason: little marks are now in place underneath !!
Lawrence: I'm tipping and tapping away nearly every day but it is mostly small things, coat of varnish here bit of sanding there..
Nigel: The remaining opening is indeedy for steps but they would be hidden away inside a .... the actual word escapes me but it is a sort of housing with a door.. you know the sorta thingy.. Hmmm I wonder should I do Ollie on it and show some steps by leaving the door open !! might look good.. would be quiet dark in there so wouldn't need to worry about 'hinting' at anything below decks ! and you would only see the top part of the steps!! will have to give this some thought !!
Stay Well Folks

Oh Nigel,
I see decks are becoming more and ambitious to make, automaticly one would leave the shoes at the entrance and swap with the felt Clogs....
Fantastic deck plankwork and finish, I love that, and besides the hull lines can be seen very well in that headview, also the bow inner bulwark finish, which probably shall be planked later on Looks great...

I imagine that the decision on mixing the tones on the deck must have been a challenge but it has certainly come off. It looks superb. I'm now curious and interested in your reluctance to treenail. Care to share your thinking on this one?

She is really taking shape buddy Nice work on the gratings,I am right in thinking the remaining opening is for some steps?.Using glasspaper on the deck to shape the underside is something i do as well.It works particularly well with removable superstructures on RC builds, obviously fitting the combing after carrying this out.

NMBROOK reacted to marsalv in Pandora by marsalv - FINISHED - 1:52
I decided to start work on another model (work on Royal Caroline have reached the stage where it can be easily done at home in the autumn and winter months). The choice fell on Pandora.
It is my first real scratch build (POB) according to plans from the book Anatomy of the Ship.
The first phase of construction was making a plan of the bulkheads and the keel using TurboCad.
