Thanks everyone for your nice comments. Nigel - I seem to be drawn to ships of this era with their extreme sheer - they just seem so majestic.Buck - the top rail moulding is 210mm long & 2mm wide. It`s actually made of brass & has a flowery design stamped on it.I just touched the highlighted areas with a small brush with different colors.Don`t know if it`s correct but it seems to look ok to me.Sorry about the poor photos - I need to experiment a little more with the settings.

I have a sneaky suspicion the photo may be a little old comparing the weapons and radar systems to the pics we are seeing.Don't be surprised if she has been refitted. Some leander class were supplied to the Dutch navy,I am going to check that out.

I could be wrong Eamonn but I think she is either Van Speijk or Kortenaer class.Pretty much everything else is of a 'stealth' design, but it is a bit like trying to name which Leander frigate

You might be right Jan,that's why she isn't on their current ship list, but she is on page 129 on this thread I can't decide whether the bridge wings have still to be fitted after the launching

Can't keep away can I Going out on a bit of a limb here, the pedalo would have been easier Eamonn I think we are looking at another Arklow shipping vessel and the shipyard is Barkmeijer Stroobos BV.The problem being they have built several vessels of this type for Arklow, and I can't find the pic.

NMBROOK got a reaction from WackoWolf in Milling Machine
Hi J Pett
They are not the same. The dremel's motor armature is in line with the spindle reducing effective spindle length and distance between bearings,on a milling machine and pillar drill for that matter the spindle is full length of the casing, this being driven by belt or gear indirectly from the motor. This puts the bearings much further apart increasing the resistance to sideloading.I know that if I put my dremel in a stand it would snap my 1mm cutter. When you add up the cost(in the uk at least)a high end dremel a stand with no movement and some sort of vertical indexing and the xy table it comes to the same price as the MF70.

NMBROOK got a reaction from tkay11 in Milling Machine
The only gripe I have with mine if I am being very picky and this may not apply to all the MF70's out there. There is about 0.2mm backlash on the vertical feed,I can work round this,It doesn't move you just have to compensate when using the dial scale.I have found a cheapish solution from Chronos engineering tools in the UK.It is a straight vernier scale with digital readout and zero function that fits to the pillar and head.It is fairly inexpensive at about 40 quid but makes life easier anyway. You can actually fit one to all three axis if you wish as they come in different lengths.I may yet do that so I don't keep having to do sums in my head whilst working

NMBROOK reacted to md1400cs in Wasa by md1400cs - FINISHED - Corel - 1:75
JPett Joachim, John, Nigel, JanV, Mark
Guys thanks so much for your latest encouraging words. I have, as you might know, been bothered with past mistakes (ship-of course (:-) the other parts of my life have been perfect Hmmmmm..
I went back and looked at an error that would be too hard to fix now. Corel, as opposed to Billings, did not properly indicate how the upper deck entry framings should look, nor how high they should be above the deck.
So, if this might be of help for Corel Wasa kits under your tables, it could have been an easy adjustment (had I known)
I could have installed that middle portion of the weather deck template a bit lower, and added a rearward slope to the housings themselves, then added the cover planks.
Moving forward; looking forward to my next steps. Again thanks to all of you who post, click Like or just look in Big Thanks.
Regards,
Michael

Thanks Nigel - given the fact I'm building the 118 Gun L'Orient or the 74 Gun Ship after Le Gros Ventre - one of these might make sense !

Thanks Nigel - I'm planning my first full frame Ancre build after Confederacy - I hear a lot of modelers on this forum mentioning mills. Frolich makes no mention of them in his book - so appreciate the info.

NMBROOK got a reaction from Bill Hime in Milling Machine
In answer to your question Tony I suggest you PM mij (sussex scratchbuild)as I know he is using the set up you refer to.
An example of what I use and will be using mine for
Housing joints
Gang milling of gun carriage sides(can machine 50 at a time all identical)
Machining square section of masts(octagonal using the dividing head I have)
Spiral staircase pillars using dividing table
Scarph joints
Capstans using rotary table
Cutting slots in knightheads
Housing joints
Keel rabbets
I could go on and on

I have been shopping these mills for awhile now. The bottomline for wood work is rpm. The Proxxon or the Dremel are the only two meeting the 20,000 rpm need for working hardwood. Between the two, for my needs, the Proxxon is much more staple and will hold to much tighter tolerances. Cost, the Proxxon is almost half the price @ $400 vs the Microlux @ $795.
I would be using it primarily for inlay work. Or flush-setting hinges and other metal work. I think for my purposes, the Proxxon will be sitting on my workbench after the first of the year.
I should add as other uses, any joinery I would do in the cabinet shop or post and beam work I can replicate in my ships.
Warm Regards,
BIll

P.S. 1hour and 40 minutes so I must be finding harder ones

NMBROOK reacted to Pete Coleman in HMS Surprise by Pete Coleman - Artesania Latina - 1:48th
Here is a link to my Picasa web album charting my "Super-Detailed" build of HMS Surprise.
I have attempted a compromise between all available sources of information on the subject.
I did have a build log on the original MSW site but alas it's all gone now.
Cheers,
Pete.
